Matt Law: I spoke to a manager with a good rep with GKs. He said Sanchez will leave more room at the near post to save more going into the far post. He takes risks that will cost him his reputation but potentially win more points than he loses.

  1. Cech use to do that he used to force the player to make a decision knowing most players will take the easy option to get a shot on target. And then he would make the save. I remember he done it twice against Liverpool.

  2. Near post criticisms have become so cliche. People hardly consider proximity and ferociousness of shots. Once it goes in near post, they instantly say "GK should've done better". Such a lazy point

  3. What I will say about Sanchez is I'm still not convinced. A lot of people changing their tune after the final which shows how fickle fans are. He's susceptible to howlers more than most. But he's one of the most athletic keepers I've seen, and excellent shot stopper and he's genuinely one of the best in the world at claiming high crosses

  4. Sanchez’s biggest issue is his concentration. When he’s on his game, you can see how well he dictates aerial duels and one of his strongest attributes is his agility. Even back during the early Poch days, ive said it Sanchez have the tools to become a really excellent keeper if he keeps his focus in the game. The last couple of months have given me enough goodwill to give him another chance.

With that being said tho, those fans who commented that Sanchez is unquestionable good need to remember his errors against Brighton and do not change the narrative. The man made 5 errors leading to goals THIS SEASON, and 4 errors leading to chances for opposition. He needs to be backed by the fanbase but if his bozoness comes back on the long term we absolutely need to replace him.

  5. Blah blah.. I’d say he’s a calamity.. He costs Chelsea too many points. The disasters are nearly every game. He’s ok but come on wake up. He was Brighton’s 3rd choice keeper for a reason..

  6. He’s great and accurate at long ball distribution but panicky and inconsistent at short ball build ups from the back, he’s got to work on his short game.
