Here we go again… West Ham United are closing in on the free transfer of Callum Wilson, and it’s already splitting the fanbase.

At 33, the former Newcastle striker brings Premier League pedigree — but also a long history of injuries. From torn ACLs to calf strains, Wilson has missed 57 games in two seasons… and even turned down a pay-as-you-play deal at St James’ Park.

So why are West Ham taking the gamble?
But with Will Salthouse and Unique Sports Group behind the deal, fans are asking: has anything really changed at West Ham?

  1. Essentially West Ham is a charity. Any manager who can't get a job knows that it's only a matter of time before West Ham will come in with an offer. Likewise, any clapped-out footballer who's over the hill and carrying a permanent injury knows that he'll always be able to extend his career at West Ham. I'm surprised the club hasn't made enquiries about Paul Gascoigne!

  2. At the next Potter press conference someone needs to ask him Yes or No was Callum Wilson your signing? If he beats around the bush with crap excuses then obviously it was Sullivan's and then we'll know where we stand with Potter because he's only there for the money. It would probably be good if he walked and publicly humiliated Sullivan saying he couldn't work under him..a la Loputegui at Wolves.

  3. All about Sullivan meddling in the football side of the club something he is unqualified in but as owner can do and always has done. Encouraged by driving the AWB purchase last season, he again believes he knows better than professional and qualified people and always has. The fact he has to validate himself by foisting signings on his manager and creating a narrative to ensure blame is directed at the manager should it go wrong tells you all you need to know about our controlling shareholder.

Only top flight club in world football operating this way. 15 years of underachievement under his ownership and a huge barrier to any progress. “We know the enemy, they is Family Sullivan” 😔

  4. Forget Wilson we need younger players we've been linked with Southampton midfielder Fernandes but won't spend big money swap him for ward-prowse and and a bit of money it's a no brainer and then spend the money on a striker

  5. thought we wanted to bring the age down within the group – plus Wilson was always taking the pee out of us – no thanks – looks like Sully is doing what he has done to all our managers in bringing in players they don't want and it will only end in one way especially with Potter saying he doesn't want a striker (how can he say we don't need a striker).

  6. Beyond all of the reasons you cited for this being a stupid signing, let’s not forget that Wilson has done nothing but disparage Westham fans since Bournemouth was promoted back in 2015. I don’t care whether it was just banter, but in my opinion, screw this guy. I would rather go without a striker than sign.

  7. Basically the club haven't renewed antonio 2.0 and don't mind him going and want to bring in a antonio 1.0 what a downgrade, sullivan just can't help himself trying to throw Potter under the bus with the news the other day saying "Potter doesn't want a ST" to now the club trying to sign wilson and potters has refused it, watch the club come out and say Potter didn't want a ST and the club tried to bring one in knowing full well Potter wants to bring the age of the squad down. can't wait for these new laws to come into play with football and hopefully pushes that slimy gremlin sullivan and brady out the door!

  8. Quick question.
Gonzo do you think its prudent we're building a championship team!?
This looks like the perfect replacement for Danny Ings dosen't it ?

  9. Groan…not again. We've been through this so many times before, I remember when we bought John Radford from Arsenal: past it, over valued, injury prone and doomed to under perform while keeping a promising youngster out of contention..

  10. I’m not in favour of this transfer at all. But I try and stay positive and I struggle to see the bad because I love Westham that much.

At least he’s English for our home grown quota.

    He’s free.

If he scores 5 goals this season from the bench then I think I’d be ok with it.

Only x1 season tho. No more than that.

  11. Ok my positive spin on this. 1 – He's not on the £120k a week Ings was on to warm the bench. 2 – Over the course of the season, he probably won't keep Marshall out of the team.

  12. If sullivan is meant to be such a astute businessman how come he makes the same old mistakes year in year out signing old, injury prone players that no one else wants

  13. This would not surprise me at all. Another 'has been' looking for his last pay check and West Ham will always oblige, Ings must have rang him and said go fill my boots, a nice easy role thats well paid!

  14. I agree with what Geo said, and you of course.
There is only one possible use I can see for having CW come in.
He could help coach our defenders on what he would do to them in situations and things they should be more aware of.
He was good once and his injuries weren't to his head. So he could impart experience.
His playing days are behind him though.
