There is and has always been a lot of hype surrounding Christian Pulisic. Only 23 and already the most successful American football player by most of the usual metrics.

But is he that good? And even further, given his age, nationality and potential, why is he in such a unique position?

  1. I would love to see soccer become a lot more popular here in the state. I’d also like to see the mls evolve into a more entertaining league system’s with a chance of relegation to a lower league

  2. Trust me, this sport has come a long way here in the USA since I first started really watching after WC 94. Back then you couldn’t even find it on TV except in my case getting to watch one Serie A match a week on an obscure cable channel. The run in 98 helped spark more interest then 02 was kind of a setback since the matches were coming on after midnight. 06 was a great WC and then also came a lot more available ways to watch the 4 major European leagues here.

It takes a generation to really take to a sport both as fans and possible future players. 06 was only 16 year ago so we are seeing with guys like Christian, the start of kids who grew up as soccer first, not an alternative to the other sports played here as youth.

I should also note, that back when I was a kid in the 80-90s if you played soccer you would get teased here. Like everything though, with guys like Beckham, Ronaldo ect they made the sport popular with females, who woujd otherwise not give a guy who didn’t play American football or basketball the time of day.

  3. I’m not American but you can’t deny the good of an influential and marketable player from there can do for the game

  4. Would Adu beat Puli in terms of hype?

Purely on that to be perfectly clear. And yes, mostly fabricated by the teams trying to get buts in seats.

I guess you can argue less people were hyped about Adu because there were less fans at the time but I feel the hype around him was higher for those who were aware.

I think many thought they had a Pele/Maradonna on their hands while Pulisic was never seen as more than just a world class player at best I feel. One of many in the sport. Even at peak speculation I don't think many people were saying he would be BETTER than peak Hazard.

  5. So, when Pulisic was given the #10 at Chelsea it got my attention and definitely drew my eyes to the team. As an American with no loyalties to any PL team… I see what they did there.

  6. '' US is the sports and athletic capital of the world''

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

LET ME STOP U RIGHT THERE…

Thats the most ignorant and stupid and baseless statement EVER!

I think with that type of statements u are sucking up to americans as they are still the most present nationality in cyberspace…

And that they still have the biggest control in world media

And its in ur interests to grow ur channel

But dont resort to saying bs like that pls

    And abt that statement,

U are right abt the latter half of that statement
Us is the athletic capital of the world
And this has mostly to do with the fact that no other country puts as much money into atgletics as much as us and thats why they have the best track record in athletics and nothing else
It has nothing to do with their inherent tslent as china, who used to sck at athletics, when they decided to spend as much as us in athletics, suddenly became their toughest competition!

Any sane person in the world will attest to the fact tgat americans suck at any sports they didnt create and any sports any other country in the world cares for!

Note: just cz u didnt like it dsnt make it any less true
So $t£u and shove ur insults and comments and replies up ur 🍑

  7. The upcoming generation of talent from the US is incredibly refreshing as an American that watches European football. I grew up waking up at 7AM to watch Arsenal and that's really the reason I fell in love with the game. Pulisic for sure is the Lebron James of soccer although there arn't many countries that call it soccer anyway.

  8. He’s good but let’s be real, he is also the US public figure for the young. It’s all good, there’s no hate but if pulisic is the best that the US has, than the US is in trouble. I believe there’s better US players but unfortunately not as popular

  9. As an American I played soccer since I was 9 years old. I can confidently say the sport really is beginning to gain more popularity, younger kids are becoming faster and much more technical than we were when I was young. The next generation of Americans could have a decent shot but I believe it’s more than a couple world cups away, so long as we qualify smh

  10. As an American I love this man and what he's done for the game here.
When I played soccer in high school in the late 00s, our only major exports were a couple goalkeepers and we punched above our weight in 1 world cup.
Pulisic singlehandedly has changed the perceptions American players are bonafide soccer players not just athletic freaks like Tim Howard or marketing stunts like Freddy Adu.
Now people will respect a young prospect from the US in academies and on the world stage, like Reyna or Musah in the same way they would a european one.

  11. Not a “traditional American” name? Are you a moron? What exactly is a traditional American name? Gary White? A country that was colonized 400 years ago from all over the world does not have “traditional names”. You think someone who has an English name is more American than someone who has a Greek or German or French or Polish or Czech name? You think Gonzalez or Ramirez are not “traditional American names”? You line in South Africa. You should know better

  12. @Football Iconic if you are looking for an American footballer who would be an interesting profile subject for his "American-ness" let me suggest Clint Dempsey, dog.

  13. I’m from England and not a Chelsea fan but I absolutely love this man, him on the ball and him as a symbol, he’s honestly one of my idols, and the fact he helped America get to the quarter final of the World Cup is extraordinary for such a young man
