I can't wait for Southgate to go, but i fear that the FA will not get the best manager that will get the best out of our attacking players.

Simon's right about 'jobs for the boys' / doling out contracts before performance is evaluated in tournament. The FA have form, they did the same with Sven and Fabio. Immediately an element of incentive is compromised; how can they be so myopic as not to see this?? The FA are without doubt responsible for decades of underachievement by the national team.

Compounding that institutional weakness, they also have form for failing to back their man at the first sniff of a tight pinch: Venners, Hod – and, yes, I'll throw Big Sam into the equation. All of those situations were redeemable if the FA had an ounce of backbone. As my dear old grandma would have said: they're a bunch of wenises.

I don't believe Gareth's determination and professional pride are open to question but, aside from the aforementioned conflict of incentive he's been lumbered with, his shortcomings should be appraised realistically. Firstly there's a chronic obsession with penalties which compelled him to sacrifice a wealth of attacking options in the Euro final at the altar of Raheem Sterling's genius for falling over. Secondly and more pervasively there's a cognitive cul-de-sac retreat of 'U-21 development / transitional' mentality which he indulges himself far too much.

If they're good enough to be selected for the first team at international level, they shouldn't be browbeaten with a load of tactical potty training, it's going to stunt their growth. You have a system / systems, you select the best players available, you tell them to play their own game. Go wide when we've got the ball, narrow when we're retrieving the ball. Find Kane at every opportunity. First option's usually best, pass-and-move makes better options, go out there and express yourselves. Make it yours.

This is typical of how fickle football fans are in this country. Southgate has done a better job as England Manager than anyone since Terry Venables. It's only a year since England reached the final of the Euros (and only lost on penalties), the first major final since 1966. Everyone was applauding what a brilliant job he did. Now, he has a run of bad results and everyone's wanting him to be sacked.

England will not win the World Cup with Southgate, he couldn’t win it or the Euros with the luckiest draws in football history.
If he had an ounce of talent he would have won the Euros. If you have a brain cell you will realise that Southgates inability tactically and decision making wise is what cost them the final. He will never win anything

People wouldn't mind Southgate so much if we at least played attractive attacking football instead of an endless succession of sideways and backwards passes.

Sack Southgate and do Chelsea a big favour – Replace Southgate with Potter

Southgate has never won a goldfish as a manager and doesn’t know how to win. His regime of picking players based on favourites rather than form must come to an end. Maguire’s failures at centre back cost us the game against France when he should not have been in the squad at all. Then putting Mount and Sterling on with 10 minutes left showed how desperate he was. These two players have had terrible seasons for Chelsea and should also not have been in the squad at all.
At half time changes should have been made. Foden off, Rashford on. Henderson off and Maddison on. Walker off, Trent on. Southgate, always a defender, lacks the ability to attack the opponent. This failure is hidden against poor opposition but is exposed against better teams when we concede goals. It’s time for this born loser to go before another generation of players are wasted.
