Diogo Jota’s wife and family were joined by Liverpool players for the funeral of the forward and his brother, Andre Silva, in Portugal following their deaths in a car crash in Spain.

The father-of-three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso 11 days before the accident, died alongside his brother after a Lamborghini they were travelling in burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The coffins of Jota and Silva were carried into Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church in the town of Gondomar near Porto on Saturday morning, followed by mourners.

A church bell tolled and crowds applauded as the brothers’ coffins were carried into the church, followed by mourners, some with their arms around each other.

Others seen arriving at the church included Reds head coach Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk and team-mates including Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez.

  1. Who gets buried less than 24 hours after dying? He wasn't Muslim. This seems weird as hell. Also the constant news about his death and condolences. Was he the first ever football player to die? Ronaldo lost his baby and there was barely a mention and he still played. This guy gets drunk and kills himself and brother. And it becomes a tradegy somehow

  2. They whole is in shock with this death we have 1 Life to live.1 minute u here next minute u a gone don't matter what u can't carry anything with u .jota u gone a good place now god always have the answer now rest in peace my brothers ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜ง

  3. Only through repentance and faith in Christ can anyone be saved. No religious activity will be sufficient, only true faith in Jesus Christ alone.

  4. Rest in Peace Diogo ๐Ÿ˜ข Wheather ur Portugise, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, Spanish, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, Man City it doesn't matter where ur from or who you support a Loss like this at such a young age is hard to take. May God guide you and your brother on your new journey ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜ข REST IN PEACE ๐Ÿ™

  5. I wasn't planning to comment, but I have to because there are some truly disgraceful comments here, as expected. So hateful people, criticizing Cristiano and Salah for not attendingโ€”this is for you: you are a disgrace! First, it was discussed earlier, and Cristiano was said to have not attended because wherever he goes, the media circus follows, and the Jota family didn't want that. Also, just because you were a teammate and captain doesn't mean you were a close friend, so both Cristiano and Salahโ€”because Salah was also not thereโ€”didn't have to attend, period. And how do you know the family wanted them there? What's more, it was very unexpected, and sorry, but people have their own families, lives, and plans. Not everybody can change those plans so quickly. If you want to spread your toxic hate, then better stay silent and not comment at all!

  7. I must say that I think it's disgusting that RONALDO did not attend the funeral of diogo and his brother Andre,,, ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก
Does that man honestly think he is that above anything as heartbreaking as this ,does he really think he's that important ,,I've always liked Ronaldo but I'm afraid my opinion of him has really gone SHAME ON YOU CHRISTIANO RONALDO

  8. I am a Chelsea fan and have been in disbelief since I heard the news! I have been a fan of him since I saw him in the Premier League with Wolves. So sad for the family to lose two of their sons in an instance. Such a shame but it great to see so many people showing their respect. It shows he was a not only a great player but a great human being! RIP to both!

  9. Where's chistiano I thought he would be here๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญfly high Jota๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

  10. @stanley The Jota family didn't want a media circus, and the media always goes crazy for CR, so he didn't for the respect of the family to not overshadow the funeral. And just because he was captain doesn't mean he was best friends with Jota. The family decided, and they didn't want it for whatever reason. stop writing the same comment, troll.

  11. 13. As a Liverpool Fan, I am deeply devastated for the passing of Diogo Jota, just like all of us.

Now Imagine the fathers, mothers and children being murdered in Palestine.
