Nope. They lack the top quality. Pretty good for p2-3. but Bayern is way ahead, buying finished, quality players.

Reasons to feel optimistic – Beier started to fit in really well during the Rückrunde. Adeyemi had probably his best season in Black and Yellow and feel like he’s ready to take the next step in his career. Julian Brandt can’t be worse than last year and Bellingham looks to be the real deal. Probably our best situation at fullback in forever.
Reasons we won’t:
It’s BVB. We’re an injury away from being in a tough spot at Striker, Midfield, and arguably center-back if we’re going to play five at the back. Still haven’t seen much of the youth players take the next step and feels like a thin squad until we do see it.
Definitely would like to see more competition for Brandt & midfield too.
I think that we have reasons to feel optimistic, it’s nice to feel in a better spot (by far) than Leipzig and Leverkusen for the first time in a few years.
OddAuthor on
would have to be very fortunate with injuries and form if Bayern. Only way it happens is if it’s a low point championship like a couple seasons ago.
Could get around 70 -75 points at a push but we won’t be lighting the league on fire

No, if they continue to treat the CWC as a friendly Dortmund will get knocked out early. Without the 100m cash infusion to pay top players top wages. We will have a hard time competing with Bayern next season.

I’m surprised at all the definitive nopes. The question isn’t “will we”, but “could we”. The answer to that is yes, but it’s just very, very unlikely.
Bayern has always been the favourite, but upsets can always happen. After seeing them win 11 in a row we’ve kind of forgot what it feels like, but consider the 2000s with Bremen, Stuttgart, and Wolfsburg: Before the season Bayern was clear favourite and the eventual champions weren’t highly rated. If a team gets a really good run and a few players have an outstanding season, for all those 3 teams it was 2 strikers (Bremen 2004 Ailton/Klasnic, Stuttgart 2007 Cacau/Gomez, Wolfsburg 2009 Grafite/Dzeko), then an upset can happen.
But that’s what it would be – a surprise, almost an upset. Could it happen? Yes. If Guirassy, Beier, Brandt, and Jobe for example hit it off and build a really strong offense, and our defense gets its shit together with Kobel/Schlotti performing at their top, there’s a chance.
I wouldn’t bet on it though 🙂 I’d take a more “boring” season though, please not a last minute CL again.

There is a small chance, we aren’t favorites but we have a chance. We need luck so we don’t get any injuries and alot of consistent performences. We are favorites in the majority of our games so if we win all of them and get good performances against Bayern and Leverkusen we can win league.

Dortmund regulary plays an impressive 2. Half of the season.
If many of the young players Dortmund buys, break through its possible.
I wouldnt bet on it

We need to make a couple of more signings for that especially a back up cb , a player who can comfortably take a player 1v1 and has a creative ability

lest watch who we buy sell and how we perform with our current squad first. 3am is hard, but lets see tonight if the heat really was such a bad factor and hindered our dominance 😀
edit: my guess is no though. Bayerns squad is top tier and we wont reach them in quality….
my call is, that we will have a good season though and a good chance at top 2.
Leipzig has a new coach and a lot of leavers, so they will get 5th or something,
Frankfurt will need to organize their attack, but are the ones i view as highest contenders for second place.
Stuttgart needs to stabilize after last seasons perfrmance and adapt to UCL loads again.
Leverkusen needs to adapt to a new coach with an almost completely new squad, after losing all of their stars…

It’ll come down to a H2H. Bayer was literally picked apart in a matter of seconds, we sheaded some fat and still adding pieces. While Bayern is Bayerning, I don’t see any other team to stress, then there’s the usual suspects, Mainz, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, ….MAYYYYBE Freiburg. I think we’re good.

We could be, but I fear the squad is too thin to deal with the rigors of the CWC and three competitions this season. Once the injuries begin to mount I fear we’ll be screwed

Honestly No. But we could maybe get a domestic trophy. Which is always a possibility.
We have pretty good attacking players, but our midfield is middle of the road and our defense has a few holes. Then younahve to consider our depth issues.

We can certainly dream. I feel like Bayern are not that strong under Kompany and are absolutely beatable. But the question is whether we are consistent enough over the course of season. Bayern are gonna drop points along the way but I am afraid we will too. Our squad is not title worthy to be honest. Lots of players who are not consistent enough and are not gonna contribute much. Let’s see how much it will change over this transfer window.

One thing to remember, this club has managed to turn performance around quite quickly from year to year.
In 2015, we finished 7th and Klopp left.
Very next season under Tuchel, Auba and Mkhi broke out and the club finished with 78 points, its second most points ever
In 2018, we had the Bosz debacle and the utter snore that was StögerBall and a 4th place finish.
Very next season under Favre, Sancho breaks out, they finish on 76 points, third most ever and come within 2 points of winning the league. Lost it down the stretch.
Last year was the first time since 2010 that we had two straight bad seasons in the league, and I blame that mostly on the Sahin debacle.
HOWEVER, as you can see in the above cases, bouncing back required improvements from young players. That is crucial
DontComeHomeToday on
Sure. They just gotta stay consistent and win the games that matter throughout the season. Add some luck to the equation and the odds could land our way.
