Actually, there is more on it. He was in doubt about the number, his mother told him to choose 39. But when he arrived at the club, not telling this to anyone, the team had his shirt ready with the number 39. After that he always used it (except when he plays for Brazil national team). His cousin drives the 039 cab today in Rio.
You could have saved us from all this confusion by telling us that the number '39' was his dad's taxi number.
