In this episode we see Antoine Griezmann in one his greatest performances during the 2013/14 season against Barcelona. His team; Real Sociedad were fighting for a top 4 spot and to qualify for the Champions League for the 2nd year in a row. This game was also vital for the 2012/13 champions Barcelona as they needed a win to regain 1st in the table ahead of Real Madrid. Barcelona came into this game having only lost twice in the league, but Griezmann and co wanted to spoil the party. The match was tied at 1-1, after half time Griezmann scored in the 54th minute and then assisted the killer blow just 5 mins later to end the game 3-1! 2 weeks after this game Griezmann was called up to the France squad for the 1st time. The 22 year old finished the season with 23 goals and 5 assists for both club and country. La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid signed him that summer for €30M and well, the rest is history!

“The Match That Made” is an established series that I started doing back in 2018. The concept is to show the superstars of today, in their best performance of the season before they got signed to a top club. Of course 1 game doesn’t make the player who they are today but those special performances are the ones that catch the eyes of world watching!
