The criticism (not racism) is predominantly based on unfulfilled expectations for which he was being paid for. If he was on £50k/week there wouldn't be nearly the same level of criticism.

Those who watched documentary "Beckham" might find a lot of similarities with this story. The toxicity of UK media, punditry and fan base is absolutely mental! The contrast of having a kid raised to worship levels in one minute, only to be torn down after ONE MISSED PENALTY is absolutely ludicrous! It's a fucking game! A sport! It absolutely doesn't mean jack shit!

The whole business of football has gone out of control with hypocrisy and sickness:
– Footballers paid more money in a week than what a heart surgeon who is actually saving lives makes in a year
– Criticising someone for what they wear and do when they are not on their job. Just imagine you being told which pants you should or shouldn't wear, where you are allowed to go and what to do in YOUR FREE TIME!
– It's one thing being late to training because you were drinking last night, that should be punished. But tell me honestly how many of you hypocrites wouldn't celebrate your birthday because your company missed the deadline on some random delivery and didn't get expected bonus profit?!

It's all gone to shit, sport and fun becoming business and stupid idolisation of honestly unimportant people who add ZERO value to the benefit of humanity.

This kid at least did something to make things better in the real world.

its like people demand things from players on the pitch…allright. Thats viable and totally fair.
But the moment these people leave the pitch. Thats when people need to stop. That's a normal human like any other. They will go on holiday and use the tremendous wealth they made.
Theres no requirement for a football player to be some Above machine like model of virtue just because their club is useless or doesnt perform as the fans want.

It's Van Gaals fault. Van Gaal made many bad decisions when he was manager and this was the worst. He fooled people into thinking this kid was great, he never was.

Marcus Rashford has had 6 Managers in 9 years. All playing different styles of football. Rashford's best football skills are his speed and his shot. He's not a great dribbler, not a good passer and below average decision maker. In other words, the style of football that his team plays matters. He's best suited playing in a direct counter style of football. Possession, Pep type football does not suit his skill set. He is best when he can run on to balls either directly played to him or placed in channels. This seems to have lost of most of those who judge the former United Man. Now, I will say that Rashford has not always covered himself in glory off the pitch but he has never gone Greenwood or George Best. Rashford is a young wealth football who doesn't mind hit a club or showing up at another sporting event. In the den of vices , those are at the bottom of the tier.

Looking at his career, he started with the Professor, Louie Van Gaal. LVG emphasized the passing game, mostly sideways and back but Rashford was an 18 year old who's game was at the beginning. Next came Darth Vader or known by his earthly name The special One. A renown Manager who is brilliant at finding ways to disrupt any team on the planet but by admission of some of his star players like Eden Hazard, had no clue about offensive attacking football. During this time he and Martial split the LW position and mostly they spent their time defending instead of attacking. This was follow by the happy sunshine of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Not only did the Norwegian United Legend know how to bring a smile on every one's face but he also insisted on playing the football he knew. Direct play it forward quickly counter attacking football. It suited Rashford and his teammates to a T. Finally a Manager who understood and would let them play the way they were suppose to play. Ole once said, he'd rather win 5-2, 6-3 than 1-0. It must not be lost that Rashford and United under Solskjaer finished 3rd and 2nd in Ole's only 2 full years at the wheel and Rashford had his two best seasons accounting for 20 or more goals in all comps including his personal prem best of 17. Rashford had 21 and 24 goals for OGS. Sadly, OGS lacked any hairdryer in him and lost control of the wheel when he was either unwilling or unable to hold some of his players feet to the fire when it was needed.

Rangnick came next and he was the first of the so called Modern day Managers (aka Pep clones) that emphasized possession and pressing. Neither of those boded well for Rashford nor United. Ten Hag was next to take a bite at the United apple and the Dutchman after some heavy smack downs from Brighton and Brentford in his first two games, decided he needed to find another way to play cause his Ajax style was not going to happen. Not with a GK who could stop shots but not deliver killer passes. So ETH change after 2 games to a more pragmatic, non pressing, direct counter style for the rest of 22/23. Results, Rashford had a career year and tied his prem best with 17 goals and 30 in total. The style the Dutchman changed to suited the team as well and they ended up 3rd with 23 wins, a Cup and an invite back to the CL.

Sadly, the Dutchman couldn't stand prosperity and decided that it was time to get back to his AJAX ways. Enter Mason Mount and Hojlund, exit David De Gea and enter Andre Onana. That decision and a rath of injuries led to an 8th place finish and after signing a contract that rewarded a career year, a perception that Rashford decided to become a lazy rich footballer.
United hierarchy dillied and dallied retaining TEN HAG, got him additional players then decide to fire him. Enter the Sandman….Ruben, I play one system one formation and will not change no matter what..Amorim. Amorim's formation automatically doomed Rashford for it would require him to become either a WINGBACK or a Number 10. Neither position was going to work and it didn't nor does it suit the majority of the current players as the evidence indicates. So Rashford is now with Aston Villa a team that should play more to his liking. I anticipate that Villa will receive the Marcus Rashford closer to his career year that what we have seen the last season and a half. But that's all down to him. Style of football Matters and to none more than Marcus Rashford.
