On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by West Ham fan Chris Stone and Southampton fan Matt Samuel to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Saturday’s GW33 Meeting at The London Stadium.

Are West Ham assets being overlooked for doublers incorrectly? There’s discussion on the likes of Alphonse Areola, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mohammed Judus and Jarrod Bowen.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for The Hammers but for Southampton it could yet be the worst of them all as they bif to overhaul Derby’s record low points tally of 11. Can they do it?

Plus, further discussion on the difficulty now for promoted clubs, what might be next for Southampton and moves West Ham may make in the summer.

  1. Interesting on what promoted clubs can do to stay up.

Scoring goals is so much harder in the Premier League. I watched an Adam Armstrong goal reel from last season, and so many of the goals you could argue that the keeper should have done better. If you regularly hit the target in the Championship, you've got a good chance of goals, but the keepers are better in the Prem and you get fewer chances.

Unless you can spend a lot, or you have unique tactics that get you off to a good start, you might need to prepare for being more backs to the wall. Rafa at Newcastle changed the Newcastle style of play from the Championship to the Prem. We went from the team that others feared in the Championship to being the potential whipping boys. Rafa made us far more negative, and then looked to slowly build from there.

  2. On what promoted clubs could do to stay up- Just be Pragmatic, don’t play from the back (Southampton, Burnley).
Have a very good keeper, good pair of CB’s and rapid wingers who will produce counter attack.
Play on the counter mostly- it won’t be pretty but after you stay up for 2-3 season, you can build on that.
    Have a:
    -Very Good keeper
    -Good pair of CB’s
-Good holding 6 and box to box 8
    -Good pair of rapid winger
-Pragmatic coach who can set up teams to be a strong in defence and attack off of the counter attacks
