The FA have created a pool of players worthy of respect, without an FA plan the premier league would have no English players in it all. Good point about the French tactics, they play to create backfield space for their wingers, which means giving up possession. We are a high floor/low ceiling team we look good against limited teams but get scared against good teams; Germany, for example, are the opposite. Tuchel or Pochettino would be a disaster for England; they would shout and scream at the players who unlike Argentine or German players, would freeze for fear of doing something wrong, Gareth has created an atmosphere where they will take a risk, that’s in our character. We need an English manager and the only one qualified is Gareth. Will we win anything? Probably not; too much luck involved.

I get the criticism of Southgate and agree with most of it, especially when it comes to substitutions, but we can't really have this discussion without suggestions for a new coach.

The crux of the issue facing English international football is simply that their managers never use the talent at their disposal to its full potential. English fans would be quite frustrated and understandably so. It might be an unpopular opinion, but the winners of the last 5 world cups have had managers who were able extract the best out of their squads in the big moments. France, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Germany and now Argentina have had managers who took risks! Southgate has never taken a risk in 3 major tournaments and England have not done anything beyond the expected. I hope for the sake of english football that this changes because the talent pool is world class and the fans deserve something to show for it.
