Could Lucas Paquetá take legal action against the FA? If he’s cleared of betting irregularities, a massive compensation claim could follow—and it all stems from the collapsed £85m move to Manchester City. 😳

The Brazilian midfielder was just days away from joining Pep Guardiola’s side before the FA launched their investigation—derailing what would’ve been a career-defining transfer and a huge payday.

With potential losses in wages, mental stress from an 18-month investigation, and the reputational damage involved, Paquetá and his legal team could hit back hard. And West Ham might not be far behind, with the club losing out on a major profit.

Is this why the FA are pushing so hard for a guilty verdict? Has this gone beyond football? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! ⚖️⚒️👇

  1. I’m wondering this is why they will find him guilty whether he is or isn’t as the the prosecutor can not allow the FA to be found wrong and corrupt and incompetent as the FA will no longer be as this amongst other stuff will damage them beyond repair

  2. If the FA appoints the panel and if it is not independent would not their potential financial exposure mean that it is more likely they find him guilty?

  3. He aint half the player Paulo is …not fit to lace the boots …can we give the youth a leg up please …by the way – its still bollocks football 60k customers pay to watch

  4. Innocent or guilty verdict, this will roll on and on in some courtroom somewhere and The FA will be involved one way or another.

They’ve set the precedent and won’t be able to just walk away.

  5. If there was evidence it would be leaked, the fact the phone was leaked, his uncle, I think if there was evidence it would have gone public, the fact its been this long and little has come out I dont think there is anything, Betway have a lot to gain, and not a lot to lose by starting this with betting brands not being allowed of shirts, the amount of publicity they have got off the back of it.

  6. Personally the FA have only heresay to hang onto along with if they create pressure on Lucas and he coughs his guilt. He ain’t doing that if he believes he is innocent.FA have dug a large hole for themselves on this hence 18 odd months to bring it to trial. He Paqueta and then West Ham will rinse the FA if they find him guilty. This counter case could last years and years maybe up to Paqueta’s retirement.Just imagine, the amount the FA could be sued in this collectively up to £100 mill,FA facing bankruptcy imo if that happens good,as the FA are the most corrupt sporting organisation in the country

  7. They will have to find him innocent and take whatever the hit is now because ultimately this would then go to the high court where it would be a criminal case and any compensation they would be due to pay now would be dwarfed by the compensation everyone associated would be due WHEN they lose the criminal trial.

Unless they are completely incompetent they will take whatever their medicine is at this stage because it only gets more costly from this point.

  8. They don't have to find him guilty, just probably guilty. That's enough.
Having some experience of how effectively unregulated bodies act in Britain they will absolutely do so, if only to protect their own jobs

  9. My suspicion is that they would only be found liable is if they were shown to be acting in bad faith.

If they had reasonable grounds to pursue legal action then I don’t think they’d be liable at all

  10. It will be difficult to determine any lack of form due to the circumstances and how many points it has cost us if the club pursues compensation!

  11. You are talking nonsense.

You don't understand matters of pure economic loss, so it's better not to talk rubbish about quantifying heads of damage in law when you don't understand it.

What you end up suggesting is that the 'judges' are not independent and the FA are manipulating the whole thing.

I'll even go as far as to bet that the FA has NEVER said anything about a Lifetime Ban and it's all tge masturbatory fantasy of idiot sports journalists…..those bastions of truthfullness

  12. Think you have the wrong end of the stick when talking about the bets placed. Probably was the case that there were many bets placed on the games where he was booked and hardly any on the matches where he wasn't booked. That is what they mean by trends. Not necessarily the individual amounts.

  13. I doubt either us or Paquetta can sue the FA. They received an allegation and were obliged to investigate it. Suing them for the leaks might be possible but you have to prove if was the FA that leaked. Can he sue for them still pursuing it with weak evidence, maybe but the damage was done by then. He’s probably got more chance of suing Betway for false allegations.

  14. Do you think the fa charge to man city was related to the timing of releasing the betting stuff on paqueta. I'm not sure if the timing collaborates right, but they might have had information on city before they released the news in public. I might be totally wrong. But maybe paqueta has been made a scapegoat in all this?
