Paul Merson and Clinton Morrison discuss Newcastle’s early January signing, Kieran Trippier, and whether or not he will help Newcastle to attract more big signings, which they will need if they are to avoid relegation this season. Could the decision to join Newcastle be a gamble for the 31 year-old defender?

  1. Trippier wants 2 b the big man, the guy is another overrated ENGLISH player, the guy will now b playing championship fitba where his abilities r more suited, he's saving no 1, Madrid took him 4 a squad player, he'll not get another cap, unless out of sports direct

  2. 31 years old coming to the end of his career playing back in England and will play most games that will keep him in England squad and he's probably on 200 grand a week I think he's doing alright

  3. Paul Merson doesn’t have a clue! Started of the season he said United will be challenging for the title because of Ronaldo. Anyone who knows football knows one player can’t change that United team fs. Paul’s a clown tbh

  4. Trippier is a good player but he isn't getting in the England squad so long as Reece James, Kyle Walker and Trent are fit.

  5. Bet he woke up and dreamed he was at the Cambridge boat race , not beaten by Cambridge. It turned out it wasn't a dream , it was a nightmare

  6. If they go down he’ll have a clause in his contract to escape come for the money give very little shits. Win win for him. Not gone for the lovely north east sights has he. Grim up there

  7. Every clip I watch of soccer Saturday now I stop listening and start thinking about how sky tv have destroyed the show completely.
Next time I hear Clinton Morrison say “at this precise moment” again I swear I’m going to throw the tv out the window.

  8. His attacking was better than his defending but he can deliver a ball into the box. Those first time volleys into the box are something else.
And he definitely would of picked up a more defensive mindset under Simeoine, at the very least improved himself defensively under him.

  9. Not really a gamble for him. He won't get many games for England. Already won the League in spain. He's 31 and nothing left to do except get paid. Even if they get relegated they're the richest team in football so his wages are nothing for them

  10. I think he is a good signing but please some reality around the guy if you don't mind. He is not and never was a world class player, he is a good player on his day that is a given but Toon need a few more players to make a fist of staying up this season, then maybe 2 or 3 more seasons stabilizing them selves before they become a less risky option for some big name players who have not passed 30 years of age. Until they get 5 or 6 players aged 24 to 27 of a higher standard than presently at the club. Having big money will attract some mecenary players in it for just the money, along with the older player looking for a big last pay day, but to attract good players who want to prove themselves is a way off just yet.

  11. Wrong again. Has he ever been right ? Trippier is adored for his determination. Fans look on him as the Talisman for Newcastle's turnaround

  12. I admire merson's fight to get his life back on track, but certain pundits definitely seem to have an issue with Newcastle . . . claimed the owners had'nt a clue two months before this, and history has proved he has been miles off the mark on so many aspects. Ii it was Arsenal, his comments would be different, be honest.

  13. Ah, as I hear us destroying Villa 4-0 on the radio and should really be 8-0 with us moving up to 3rd in the League…..gamble paid off.

  14. This has aged well… And now Merson may have had a change of heart…. And yes when we approach any player, their prices get hike by £10m, and the best part, we don't pay more than what we assume a player is worth.. No wasting of money on unnecessary signings
