  1. For those who don’t know: The F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation stealth air superiority fighter developed by Lockheed Martin for the United States Air Force. First introduced in the early 2000s, it was designed to dominate the skies with a combination of cutting-edge stealth technology, unmatched maneuverability, and advanced avionics. It can cruise at supersonic speeds without using afterburners (a feature called “supercruise”), allowing it to engage and disengage on its own terms while remaining nearly invisible to enemy radar.

What makes the F-22 so special isn’t just its stealth, but also its sheer agility. Thanks to thrust-vectoring nozzles and a highly sophisticated fly-by-wire system, it can execute insane maneuvers that most other jets could only dream of. This makes it incredibly difficult to hit in a dogfight, and when you pair that with its radar and sensor fusion capabilities, it can detect and eliminate threats before they even know it’s there.

Despite its dominance, the F-22’s production was controversially cut short, with only 195 built, due to high costs and shifting military priorities. Even though the U.S. has since moved on to the F-35, many still argue that the Raptor is in a league of its own when it comes to air-to-air combat. And here’s a fun fact: The U.S. government was so protective of the F-22’s technology that it straight-up banned its export, even to close allies like Japan and Australia. So yeah, if you see one of these in the sky, just know you’re looking at a jet that’s still considered one of the best in the world, even decades after it was first introduced!
