Substitute Leroy Sane put the Bavarians ahead in the 75th minute.
Benedict Hollerbach levelled, eight minutes later.
Bayer Leverkusen can close the gap on Bayern to six points if they beat Stuttgart on Sunday.
As for Union, this point moves them further away from the relegation zone.
