  1. [Listening to the arsecast women pod](https://arseblog.news/2025/02/arsenal-women-arsecast-112-february-mailbag/) and at 28:20ish Jamie Spangher says that prior to the season someone at the club told her 25,000 tickets every game were needed for the club to break even.

Think this is the first time we’ve seen/heard an actual number (unless I’ve missed it). I’m kind’ve amazed it’s so low but also I’d heard we were meeting our break even point so I knew it had to be sub 35k.

There’s a few interesting things with this and we still have to assume a few things which is unfortunate but necessary without them being forthright.

The break even point being so low with the current ticket cost does make me think back to the interview that said Arsenal women fans spend a lot more on merch/concessions than the men’s fans. Is that a factor? If so is that sustainable?

I wonder if the 25k is a base break even point or if it factors in the capped (10kish) UWCL games and is slightly increased with those in mind. I assume the former with the club deciding to eat the costs on those capped games.

I wonder if that is solely stadium costs for the break even or if marketing is factored in. They obviously have tried a lowkey method and I think it’s been pretty successful.

  2. Had a great time at the Australia v. USA match at the SheBelieves cup yesterday! Despite the loss, the Aussie team played much better than they did against Japan.

I was in a happy little pocket of Aussie fans. The Ausenal girls played really well- particularly KCC and Caitlin.

There was a group of USA fans in the row behind me and they made frequent comments about how skilled and fast “number 9” was (Foordy) but just in the context that they lamented any time she got to the ball. It was delightful lol.

At the end, they were wondering what club she played for and I chimed in to say Arsenal. They chuckled and said “Figures. She’s so good.”

  3. We’re not going to make the West Ham game this weekend, anyone have suggestions where to list tickets since ticket exchange is closed?

Happy to give them away, I feel like a Sunday evening even for Meadowpark wont be a sellout.

Also oddly I only have one ticket come through for our two season tickets so I need to chase that if I can figure out someone who wants them.

  4. so in classic australian fashion, a shock jock on the classic rock radio station said some incredibly whack comments about the tillies and womens football, but in a surprise for fm radio, he’s actually been sacked. unfort there will also be too many people in australia who agree with him, or at least to some level, about womens football. apollgies, just had to vent (am a little on the painkillers too)

  5. 10 of our players having a game on the Wednesday of an international break when we have a match this weekend makes me feel a little ill

  6. I could only catch a few Nations league fixtures but I guess on national duties outmuscling your 1v1s with okayish ball carry still holds valid. It was good shift by England yesterday though.

The recent Arsenal financial results are slightly troubling. Reduction in UEFA spending limits (w.r.t overall revenue; men’s team) will come down by 20 % (YoY in next 2 years). The main pot of money seems to be getting stretched esp. given the situation men’s team finds themselves caught in.

Correlate that with the need of securing prime talent whose wage demands are seemingly high for us (Keira Walsh). We aren’t willing to break our wage structure and Chelsea is more than happy to oblige. Looking at Liverpool and Matt Beard has departed as their manager. Again IMO done poorly by the injuries and an under invested squad.

This splurge mixed with how the fixture lines up (league + national duties) means that there’s a significant difference between the “margin for error” between us and Chelsea. I hope we get our luck with fitness and look at player versatility apart from the usual factors.

  7. Was at a pub quiz tonight with my work friends and a question came up asking what fee Chelsea signed Naomi Girma for

My friends were like “are you sure??” mate I’ve never been so sure in my life I’m still not over it
