  1. Erm I can assure you Jim that in 20 years people will remember the Slovakia game, what a great great ending. The whole knockouts, whether performances being okay or not, memorable as hell and will be held very dearly , even if we lose to Spain

  2. Southgate has some of the world's best players but somehow his teams rarely reflect that. Lucky to be in the final. Hope the luck continues.

  3. NOTHING has changed… we were 90 seconds away from going out to a team ranked 40 odd and 4 leaf clover boy gets bailed out by a moment of class.

  4. Southgate still loses to the first good team he plays. Whether that's the semi v Croatia, the final v Italy, or the quarter v France. England are lucky draw merchants, and succeed despite Southgate not because of him.

  5. Southgate is a very good man manager but very average as a football coach. Continually playing players out of position, and continuing to do so, despite abysmal performances are not the attributes of a good coach. I fully expect Spain to put us under the cosh from the first minute and, rather than punch back, weβ€˜ll pack our box and hope to hold out. I really hope he makes me eat my words, but somehow I doubt it.

  6. Simon is spot on and speaks truth that a lot of English fans and pundits don't like to hear. Southgate is an average manager and even if England was to win on Sunday, that does not change his standing. The talent he has on display is carrying the team and has nothing to do with his tactical or coaching prowess. If they had played with a forward attitude ,this team would have put fear into the tournament.

  7. If he wins the Euros you can say he's a decent tournament coach; I'm not a Southgate fan but that's probably fair but he wouldn't get a top PL job.

  8. So we squeezed through a group where two of the teams are ranked 32nd and 57th in world rankings. We barely clung on against Denmark. We only got through 45th ranked Slovakia because of a worldie and we got past Switzerland on Penalties. We just managed to get past the Netherlands who aren't hitting the heights themselves. Yet we're to believe that even if we beat Spain, Southgate is a top class manager? No sorry, Simon is right that Southgate is average. I hope we beat Spain but even average managers can beat great teams sometimes.

  9. Unless we bring home the trophy Southgate wont have proven anything that we didn’t already know. Hes good at taking advantage of easy draws but still hasnt beaten anyone we shouldn’t have beaten so far.

  10. How many of these so called pundits will be celebrating if we win Sunday???, all of them this manager has a great record stats wise and talksport has had an agenda the whole tournament

  11. Jordan is wrong: he's not an average manager – he's a well below average manager. The squads succeed in SPITE of the negativity and amateur 'management' of Southgate. Am I wrong? Let's see how many Prem teams are lining up to take him or even Championship teams.

  12. I made a similar point to the lads whilst playing myself on Sunday. The criticism hasn't been personal or abusive, merely on a professional level, at least what I've heard. Moreover I think it's deserved, Spain were by far the better side, and I was bracing myself for a hammering. That said, England's preponisity to sit back on a 1-0 lead and thereby invite teams to come at them predates Gareth Southgate but we did have a comparatively easy path to the final, and then only scraped through. I've long thought that there are top many foreign players in our league and now it's affecting the French and possibly the Belgians, Germans etc too. I may well be wrong, but along with millions of others I'm just searching for the reason why.
