Manchester City expert Steven McInerney from Esteemed Kompany shares his thoughts on the club’s right-back situation for the second half of this season.
The Citizens have allowed Kyle Walker to join AC Milan on loan, leaving Pep Guardiola with only one natural right-back option in his senior squad in the form of 20-year-old Rico Lewis.
However, Guardiola has opted to start midfielder Matheus Nunes as a makeshift right-back in recent weeks and many Man City fans are in agreement that the Portuguese has struggled to adapt to his new defensive role.
McInerney discusses whether Man City should have pushed to sign a new right-back in January following the exit of Walker and gives his opinion on whether Guardiola and co can end the season on a high, potentially with some form of silverware, if Nunes is to feature regularly at right-back.

it s totally impossible that Nunes can play rightback,totally no sense because he hasn t skills for do that!!Just Guardiola don t see it and he continues to put Nunes rightback!Unfortunately these are the big limits and weak points of Guardiola during his career as put Yaya toure as centralback in Barcelona and many others ridiculous things made by Guardiola1He s not genius,he s just a great manager like many others managers!In this ridiculous world people are use to say quickly he s a genius,he s a phenomenal but the reality is totally different.I m a City fan but i m honest fan and i know very well football and for sure i thank Guardiola for all these 9 wonderful years where we wrote the history in english football and we broke all records but i have to say as well that he made many mistakes not by genius manager and his friend Begiristain too,he did so many mistakes to buy so ridiculous poor players!!So this is the reality!Now for example Guardiola continues to put Gvardiol as leftback and he isn t leftback because he s a central back and he continues to put Foden often left or right wing instead he has to play in central postion as attacking midfielder and many others big mistakes.Guardiola continues to play with 4 3 3 formation but he can t play with this formation because we haven t real fullbacks,you can t play with 4 in the back without speed and strong fullbacks,instead for me we should play with 3 2 4 1 formation as treble season and with this formation Gvardiol can play really well as central back on the left side but not as leftback with 4 defenders because he hasn t skills as leftback!!Guardiola in many aspects of football is really really poor,this is my view.The last thing i want say is that guardiola did a huge disaster this season because he had to rebuild this team last season instead he stopped the rebuilding because he thought this team could compete also this season without any others top new players!!It s crazy!He is out of mind!!For me maybe the time is finished also for him like for many players.come on city!
