Did you know that Matt Turner, the goalie for US Mens National team & Arsenal, didn’t play football until he was in high school? Turner, who grew up in Jersey, was a basketball and baseball player growing up. Apparently, the original keeper for the freshman team was injured at the tryouts and he stepped in goal. Turner then would go on to play goalie at Farfield University in Connecticut, but the story gets better. He would go undrafted in the 2016 MLS Super Draft. After signing a deal with the New England Revolution and working his way up, Arsenal came calling in February 2022 and reportedly paid a $6M transfer fee. Meanwhile, perfect performances for the US at the CONCACAF Gold Cup has led him to the World Cup.
