Lautaro Martinez Wins the Golden Foot Awards 2024.

Argentina legend Lionel Messi’s wait for the ‘Golden Foot’ award will continue, as the Inter Miami star was beaten this year by his Argentina teammate Lautaro Martinez.

First introduced in 2003, the Golden Foot award is given to players who are at least 27 years old and can only be won once during their career.

Over the years, players such as Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Ronaldinho have won this award.

Many thought this year could finally be Messi’s turn to receive the ‘Golden Foot’ as he was nominated alongside Marco Verratti, Neymar, Virgil van Dijk, Thomas Muller, Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann and Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine has been in fine form as he scored 22 goals and assisted 13 in 23 games for Inter Miami, who face Atlanta United in the Major League Soccer playoffs on Saturday.

However, the 37-year-old’s wait for the Golden Foot continues as the winner announced this morning (Friday) was Argentina team-mate and Inter star Martinez has been named the winner of the Golden Foot 2024.

Lautaro Martinez wins the Golden Foot Awards 2024,” says the official post on social networks.

Martinez managed to register 27 goals and seven assists in 44 games in all competitions during the 23/24 season. This season, the 27-year-old scored five times and assisted four times in 12 games.

Earlier in the week, Martinez finished seventh in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings.
