  1. If croatian goalkeeper knew, that he would kick Lewy in such way, he should have take his leg back earlier. That for sure red card, even it was not intentional foul.

  2. The International Football Association Board IFAB:

If a player challenges for the ball in a careless or reckless manner or using excessive force, it is an offence (foul) whether or not the player makes contact with the ball.

The referee will award a free kick or penalty kick and take disciplinary action (yellow/red card if appropriate) even if the offender touches the ball while making a foul challenge.

    IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER

1️⃣ Contact with the ball is not relevant/sufficient to determine that the challenge is legal, especially if the ball contact is at the same time or after contact with the opponent. Also, ‘playing the ball first’ does not mean that the challenge is legitimate or any less serious.

2️⃣ The disciplinary sanction is based on the intensity of the foul or its tactical impact.

    PHYSICAL SEVERITY

If the referee judges that the challenge was reckless or the player used excessive force/endangers the safety of an opponent, the offender’s behaviour must be sanctioned accordingly, whether or not the contact with the ball was made, i.e.:
    * caution (yellow card, YC) for the reckless challenge
    * sending-off (red card, RC) for serious foul play

  3. Lewandovski is total trash of a player. He was nowhere near the ball, livakovic came much faster. Why did lewandovski continued to run towards livakovic when hes not even close to get it first? Just to get foul. I would give yellow card to lewandovski for running into keeper for no reason, he wasnt even trying to block…

  4. To Croatian fans: There wasn't VAR reaction because VAR referees agreed with the red card. They decided that livakovic left the foot intentionally to attack Lewandowski.

  5. Never in Football History IS this a Foul Lewandowski ist fouling livakovic after hee shoots the ball who have the ball and hoo shoots the ball ball Play and nothing

  6. Why did Lewandowski ran so maniacally towards the ball and Livaković when it was clear he will not come to the ball first. Lewandowski should have gotten yellow card for causing the scene.

  8. Livakovic should've done better. Extended foot, way too high. In best case this was clumsy and careless. Lewa stopped, Livakovic had no intention of putting foot down

  9. Foul, yes! Yellow card, shure. Redcard… Absolutely No!!! Why not? He went for the ball, no intention what so ever to foul the opponent… Opponent ran at him and there was no time or space to move his leg. Everything happened so fast and there is nothing he could do. It turns out he hit Lewa by accident, but this accident was caused by Lewa's reckless sprint… Lewa should be more carefull… like this he cen get seriously injured, or he can injure another player.
