Hello everyone and welcome back to Inside Arsenal.

in today’s show I share my latest information on Gabriel Martinelli’s injury and look at who could start at Bournemouth if Martinelli and Bukayo Saka miss out. I also round up the latest international action and look at what Riccardo Calafiori has been saying while away with Italy.

PLEASE NOTE: I recorded this show before the news broke that Jonas Eidevall had left Arsenal. I will discuss news that tomorrow as the club start their search for a successor.

  1. Hey Charles, any indication if any Real Madrid scouts were at the Belgium – France match? Let's hope so and they move on while we tie Saliba down to a new long term contract!

  2. anyone focusing on Saliba's slip is missing the point. He had his worst game probably in the last 3 seasons. He gave the ball away in dangerous areas more than 5 times, leading to a number of scoring chances.
What was great though was his bravery, and he didn't play scared or shy away from doing what he wanted to do with the ball.
I chalk it up in large part to the players in front of him and the set-up. It's gotta be tough going from the well-oiled machine that is Arsenal to this current French squad

  3. Jonas has taken the Arsenal Women as far as his capacity can, and I commend the Arsenal hierarchy for recognizing that and taking action on time, because with him it only going to get worse.

  4. Charles, your pronunciation of “edema” classic 😂.

    Try pronounce it as “Eh-deam-a”

It basically means swelling. Important to note thats not an unusual finding in elite sports athletes. For footballers, muscle edema in the legs isnt uncommon especially when an MRI is done close to when the muscles were used ie training or Match.

It may indicate a tear as well so it becomes a matter of managing the issue ie rest and physio +/- repeat imaging in a few days once the edema settles.

  5. This is why Arteta started Sterling and Jesus in the last game. We need both firing and resting Saka/Martinelli won’t be an issue.

I think Saka and Martinelli will make the bench (similar to Ben White vs City) and Arteta will hope he doesn’t need both. Sterling Havertz and Jesus as front 3. Rest of the team unchanged.

Edit: This is assuming both Saka and Martinelli aren’t fully fit. If they are, 100% starting.

  6. I totally agree with your line up for Bournemouth but I’d go one further. I think Saka and Martinelli should both start the game on the bench. Ideally not be played at all ahead of Liverpool. At worst given very limited minutes. The last thing we need is to loose one or both of our key wingers to long term injury because we’ve rushed them back. We know for sure they have injury’s, rest them.

  7. Martinelli was on his way back to being the vital player he has been in the past. He needs to be regularly picked. Once again the international break brings the groan of football fans worldwide. Stopping club football for it is like taking a break in your 3 star Michelin meal for a pot noodle. Abject boredom.

  8. Hi Charles. Rich content, thanks very much. If Saka and Martineli are not available I would go for Trossard on the left, Jesus on the right, Nwanieri in the MO position. Sterling will replace either on the wings depending on their performances. Merino full debut with TP5 on the bench. TP5 to come in for Rice at a later stage, Rice must be tired to be in top form this weekend and the Champions league game.

  9. I’m against starting Saka…he needs a rest and a tight hamstring is a warning, heed it ffs!

Bournemouth aren’t easy at all but we should still be able to beat them with the players we have, Sterling and Jesus especially need to step up and the tough run of games we have we aren’t going to get the results required if they don’t. Also resting Saka means he’s fresh for Anfield, which is arguably the toughest game after City trip.

In contrast though, I would risk Martinelli if deemed fit as hes finally played himself back into form and think him sitting out the next game would disrupt the momentum he was building.

  10. Hi Charles – Bournemouth. We can’t think people. We have to think systems. Arteta has attacking, defending and counterattacking patterns that matter. When sterling runs through the middle or across, it’s not clear to me that he does it in the way arsenal reallocate players. So we are often left with holes on the pitch – that’s how we took in the goal against Southampton. You start Sterling as a last resort. Jesus starts. Nwaneri is a shout if jesus starts because jesus needs help fitting into an unfamiliar-ish position.

  11. I never underestimate a team but show some confidence Charles, I believe in this team. I always go in with the mindset that Arsenal wins!!! I will never understand this fanbase.

  12. Afternoon everyone… if Saka and Martinelli are out could we play Trosard off the left, Sterling right and then fit Rice, Partey and Merino as a midfield three ?

  13. I’m not a fan of Sterling he likes to take on to much and balls it all up if only he could pass the ball more but a bit of a glory hunter

  14. Any idea of when Ben White will be back to full fitness? With Tomiyasu joining Zinchenko & Tierney on the sidelines it seems like Kiwior, LewisSkelly, Calafiori, Timber & Partey will be given different fullback duties over the coming months..

  15. Shocker is a bit harsh for Saliba. France insist on playing him on the left side of defence and communication with players he rarely plays with shows after playing for such a finely tuned Arsenal. I hope these internationals don't affect his Arsenal perfomances as our defence has already showed some weakness in the first quarter of the season.

  16. Hi Charles. Lovely content always.

In regards to the upcoming run of fixtures, and just as a point of correction, we drew away to Liverpool last season. So we had 5 points from Bournemouth, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Chelsea last season.
We defo hope for that point tally to at least be doubled this time around.

    Cheers

  17. If Saka and Martinelli are out the solution is to change structure and keep 2 up front Jesus and Kai, then Stirling to replace Jesus if he loses fizz. whether 4 in the middle will provide an opportunity for ethan is really down to the gaffer, but I would.

  18. Hey Charles first off Massive thanks to you for keeping us updated on AFC and everything football. Secondly I am not one to believe every rumours out there but I wanted to ask you if there’s any news for Martin Odegard and his potential return date is the setback are real thing or is it just a rumour. Going into this run of games he’s really gonna be needed. much love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦

  19. I don’t see why everyone sees Martinelli as this world class player that makes or breaks our play. He’s been hurt or played terribly since we have been good the past couple years. He had one decent season a couple years ago and all of a sudden he’s a huge cog in the machine? He had 6 goals last year and we almost won the league. 2 this year and we are competing. We play great whether Martinelli plays or not. Let’s not pretend this is like losing Saka or Declan Rice. It’s not.

  20. Hi Charles, I think when we are playing teams further down the table we need to start with Sterling. The more he plays competitive games the better he and we will be. Jonesey from Felbridge.
