It would appear that he needs close-up support, so we might have to rejig.
If we play with style of high press and defenders bring the ball out further so wings and midfield are closer to him he should be O.K .

Füllkrug and Ings are not lone strikers, Füllkrug admitted in his first interview for the club that he needs to be assisted by the players around him.
We just aren't going to see the best of Füllkrug playing as a lone striker, nor Ings.
Plus Füllkrug and Ings are not crap players. They both have a lot of experience playing at the highest levels.
Not that this solves our striker issue, but I remember Steidten saying that Fullkrug is great to have in the dressing room and does a lot off the pitch too. what that entails exactly I dont know

To answer Geos question, I think they wanted both strikers, as Antonio was considered close to finishing his WH career
The difference between Fulkrug and Scamacca and Haller is that Fulkrug grafts when he isn't on the ball and the latter two don't at all.

I haven’t seen enough of Fullkrug to have an informed opinion about him. From what I have seen it would seem to me that to get the best out of him we will need the entire midfield, the wingers and fullbacks interacting with him consistently. We can do that, but to get him and the side acclimated it’ll take another couple of months once he’s in the side to get the side purring. Basically, the majority of this season is going to be our players figuring each other out.
I reckon Fulkrug is probably busy putting up his Xmas decorations early in case he falls off the ladder with a further injury. 🤔

This is an accurate assessment. Annoying, as I knew this would be the case the moment we signed him. Another 30 odd million and still can't replace Antonio. Not the first time it's happened, mind you. I will probably get a response to this with some people who are going to try and play some mental gymnastics and try and disprove me, but ultimately, I am right. Said it from the summer, Fulkrug will not be a better option than Antonio. Duran would have been, Samu would have been, Sorloth would have stood a chance, but not Fulkrug. I think we will end up trying to cut our losses on Fulkrug. My recommendation would be to offer Antonio a contract extension. For the sake of a million odd quid, you have ultimately got what is looking like a better option upfront than someone who cost you 27 million. 🤷♂ Must be annoying, me being right all the time.🤷♂ Now to scroll through the comments and correct people who are trying to play mental gymnastics with themselves. Think I've spotted one already.

I'll write this as an open comment and if the shoe fits. etc. etc. etc. People asking for 4-4-2 (again, like you did with Ings and Scamacca); basically, what you want is to take a man out of our midfield to support a striker not athletic enough to do the job on his own. All so Antonio doesn't play. Jokers (for want of a better word). Antonio keeps proving you alllllll wrong. I love it.
We did not pay anywhere near £27 Million for Fulkrugg. More likely £17 Million plus add ons.
Thanks Geo and Gonzo for such a comprehensive answer. I am still apprehensive, we need to get players close to Fullkrug. I noticed that in the club training videos that Lopetegui constantly gets players close together passing quickly in triangles. I hope Fullkrug gets fit & does well, that’s all we can do. But. It wouldn’t surprise me if another striker is signed in the next year.

Offer Antonio a contract extension, sell Fulkrug (at a loss) in the summer, and reinvest it into a more athletic CF. History repeating itself. It was the same process with Scamacca. My recommendation would be Akor Adams from Montpellier seeing as Duran's price has doubled in a month. LOL.

I assume that Füllkrug was brought in simply to be more varied. To be able to play different systems, to be able to switch between different tactical orientations depending on who you are playing against, or whether you are playing at home or away. That it's no longer quite so predictable… Fullkrug and Antonio are two completely different types of players, which makes more sense than if you had two exactly the same types of players, for the reasons mentioned above…
Tim Steidten was asked on German TV on Sunday, a football talk so to speak, whether Füllkrug can or will prevail at West Ham. Steidten replied that he really wanted Füllkrug, of course because of his qualities and because Füllkrug had received absolutely nothing for free in his career. Everything always had to be worked out hard because Füllkrug doesn't necessarily have the same talent as other footballers! He fought his way through every club, no matter how difficult it was at the beginning! Ambition and will, a fighter! Those were basically Steidten's words…

Buying Antonio for 7 million 9 years ago and paying 27 million for Fulk 2 months ago has to be the funniest thing ever. Antonio is better than Fulk and anyone debating that is in pure denial. I knew it in the summer and watching the cup game against Bournemouth B-Team where he managed 14 touches in total only proved it further.. and then getting injured out of nowhere in a non game situation. No disrespect, he seems like a nice geezer, but he needs to be Scamacca'd.. aka.. sent back to where he came from immediately. People giving him a bly because he's 'blonde' and has a cheeky smile. He's dead weight. Awful signing.
Gentle reminder: Antonio has been directly involved in all of our last 5 goals in 2 games by either scoring, getting the assist, or assisting the assister. 🤷♂ Still the best CF at this club.. comfortably.
I think/hope Fullkrug is a decent player with attributes to do well in English football. But in principle 40 mill for an exciting 20yo is far better business than 27 mill for a 31yo with little resale value.

If we play to Fulkrugs strengths then we have two players of the same ilk. Because INS is just as good.
Both of our strikers are good but the important point is can we play a game that suits them.
