Chris Mepham came through the ranks at Brentford’s infamous B team project, when they disbanded their Academy and left the U21s League, but he’s spent the last five years at Bournemouth in and out of their first team eventually being deemed surplus to requirements this season. His last game for Bournemouth was in a 2-1 win over Everton last March and since then he’s appeared for Wales in the Nations League.
He signed for Sunderland on a season long loan on the 30th August and will become a free agent next summer. He was an unused substitute against Plymouth last week, but precautionary measures over Dan Ballard meant he was granted his debut for Sunderland today at home to Middlesbrough.

When was the last time an SAFC player had a better debut than this?
Great to have such an intelligent and savvy defender who reads the game so well. Yet another great addition for SAFC.
84th minute excellent concentration and positioning.
Thanks
Hoping we can afford his wages and give him a permanent deal next summer when his contract expires.
Superb as always. 'Bould' statement but this guy has a bit of the movement and poise of a certain Peter Reid centre half signing from Arsenal several years back….let us hope he grows to be as good as him.
I thought he started off a bit too aggressive and leaving his position too quick but definitely showed his quality for 80mins. Thrilled with this signing and if we can get him on a free this summer its even better
He's always asking for the ball, which shows he is brave. He'd make a good CDM as well!
