Good tactical breakdown. I have thought this too. Bruno needs to drop into a proper midfield 3. Also though keep possession instead of the low percentage glory balls. Yet its a balancing act to beening creative and giving away possession when out of shape. Then easily counter atacked!!
The harsh truth is that Bruno has peaked. He will still work hard and produce the odd moment but not nearly at the frequency he did 2-3 years ago. The returns are diminishing. Ferguson would’ve identified this and cashed in on him in the last transfer window. Honestly, it will be a waste of time trying to change his role or to build the midfield around him at this stage. He is demonstrably on the decline. Time to face facts guys.
You articulated my thoughts way better than I could. I have said for a while now that we need a midfield unit (offensive shape and defensive shape) similar to how we see a defence and how it organises a defensive line and how the full backs attack (one attacking and one holding back)
We need to see a three man midfield out of possession (Bruno cannot be ahead of the ball) where we drop into a 6 and two 8’s who cover either side of the 6.
This would allow us to have our wingers and striker stay a bit higher (inverting into the half space near the halfway line) so we can break better. If we break, Bruno can break with them and either Kobbie stays or a wing back inversts next to the 6 to again have solidity in the middle if we get countered.
Agree. If we can play Bruno and Mainoo as 8s, Bruno will more often have his head towards goal istead of his back. He is more of a threat then.
Bruno would work great in a Klopp side.
We don’t know that this isn’t already what ETH is asking Bruno to do though Ste, do we? He probably is already being asked to play in the advanced 8 but because he has the positional awareness of a blind astronaut, he just flaps about the pitch blaming everyone else for him losing the ball.

So pleased you have done this video. Bruno is not a poor player, he's class… but I do think what he's done for thr last 2 or 3 seasons has really hindered united and doesn't suit us. For forward 3 have to convert miracles from the chances he creates for them. What did he do in that first season that's different from today?

Finally someone has clocked on. Bruno needs to drop back and dictate play. At the moment cause Bruno is so far ahead, Casemiro has been told to play more progressive passes. That’s not his game so he is now making more mistakes. We need someone who can dictate play
Bruno’s final ball is shocking. If there’s a Utd counter and Bruno has the ball, you can guarantee he’ll play a bad pass or make the wrong pass. So many attacks break down with Bruno.. watch future games and see this for yourselves
I think this solution could work, but I think it would require a rework as to how the team presses. Would require a lot more from the striker to press the two center backs and require third man presses from midfield

More then anything we should talk about the role of Mainoo. Looking at all of his atributes, he is more of a 10 then anything else. His defensive rate looks weak atm
As a coach, I think one glaring aspect you appear to have overlooked is Bruno is NOT very good at running with the ball. Therefore when he picks up the ball between the lines, or on the half turn, he doesn't have the option/ability of a Odegard, KDB, Pogba or even Szoboslai to simply run with the ball into space behind the opposition midfield, which then would open up other options to play a better pass. Therefore, the best option he often has is to make a hollywood pass, or line breaking pass, from wherever he picks up the ball (especially if deep).
United may be better suited to either changing their style of play to something that isn't transitional and is more possession based (giving Bruno instructions not to always look for the killer pass), or simply play someone else in the centre of the pack, who can run with the ball (Mainoo), meaning you then hope/pray Ugarte /Casemiro are good enough technically to dovetail and find passes to him (whilst playing Bruno out wide or as a false 9).
