      The level of international football has dropped massively. The standard of this World Cup is terrible compared to 2002 in Japan/South Korea! 48 teams at the next one will mean the standard is worse than this one! It'll literally be like qualification football for the bigger teams when you see Germany Spain France etc having to go to places like Malta and San Marino! Thats the level the World Cup will become

      Straight after this caller there was an absolute genius from Coventry who said he went to Russia 2018 but refused to go to Qatar because of "human rights issues" 🤣🤣🤣. Just goes to show the average Brit is entirely led by the media and possesses the same critical thinking skills as a grapefruit

      I always want England to do well and I find it relatively easy to support players that play for my club teams' rivals whenever they don the England shirt, but I must admit, I did laugh when Kane missed that penalty. I think it's a coping mechanism – after years of heartache and disappointment following the national side, I laugh and take the piss to try and avoid those feelings from occurring. Call it a madman's method, I don't know, but I find it helps. This method doesn't work whenever my club team lose or fails though because I care more about them, so I get where Nick the Arsenal fan was coming from.

      Pretty disgusting how most people are hating on Kane just because saka, rashford and sancho got sickening racist comments made to them. Two wrongs don’t make a right we should support our countries players no matter what

      I hate the way Harry Kane and Gareth Southgate were both reading from scripted writing that they were needed to say. It makes me think it's all set up.

      As an overseas Arsenal fan, I have solemn and fully-justiable right to laugh at Kane's miss on penalty.

      However, I can't speak for the other fellow fans who are British nationals.

      gooner fan is spot on how can u want players u can't stand in the league then suddenly want them 2 do well in internationals no thanks couldn't care less about England

      May as well just bite the bullet and go to 64 teams. 16 groups of 4, top 2 qualify to knock out stage. Means there will be 128 games total and 8 games for the winner vs 7 in this world cup, but surely a superior format to 16 groups of 3 and top 2 qualify which is problematic for a number of reasons. A fair more games though (vs 80 in the current proposed format for 2026?)

      Goes to show the gulf in class with the respective supporters. I remember spurs fans clapping Saka after his euro miss. The way some treat Harry Kane and try to cut him down at every opportunity astounds me.

      The whole point of the expansion was to increase revenue by having more matches. Having 16 groups of 2 defeats that purpose. Sorry, I miscalculated, that format works

      You could just have 16 groups, that way the number of games played for each team doesn't increase, this would be better for clubs who are complaing about player fatigue
