This example sums up how bad Southgate is, of all the games to play Trent it was against Slovenia instead he played Gallagher from the start. England were always going to have the most amount of possession and Trent is better with the ball.
People aren't talking enough about the LB problem. Trippier playing there is having a direct impact on Foden at LW (which he isn't comfortable at anyway) and the left side of midfield. Trippier doesn't want to go forward and overlap supporting Foden because he's uncomfortable doing so, partly because he can't cross with his left that well and partly because he doesn't have the pace to do it, or the pace to get back into position if he loses the ball. We HAVE to sort that out. You can put Gordon in LW but you'll have a marginal improvement, there'll still be no overlap. This sounds radical but I agree with Ian Wright, put Saka at LB. He's done it before, he's fast and most importantly left footed. We can put Foden/Palmer at RW to replace him and not lose much, you gain so much putting Saka at LB though

Southgate has instructed the players to not lose at all costs. That stops them going out and playing to win. The formation and tactics show this. Also, he sent home both Madison and Grealish. We have no creativity, I wonder why that is? Southgate is clueless.
It's a total shame 😔 England arguably has the best league in the world. And we have some great players who are creative and skillful. Southgate is hindering these skilful players. He's too defensive minded. Apart from the first 25mins against Serbia, Scotland has played better.

I said it many years ago that , the players this manager is having in his disposal are top top players, almost all of them playing in the premier league. Why all of a sudden are these top players all of a sudden their forms dropped dramatically in just a few weeks after last season .
Southgate is clearly gone after this tournament. But he's also guaranteed that he never gets one of the top jobs. He's effectively gone from being Bobby Robson to Steve McLaren in a few weeks.
