Hansi Flick’s Barcelona revolution has begun… but how much of a revolution is it?

In this third instalment of my Hansi Flick mini-series, I take a look at Barcelona’s pre-season under the German. I’ll be looking at the tactical direction he’s taking the team, and how it differs to the previous Xavi era.

  1. Flick’s preference for wingers to invert slightly alleviates my Olmo at LW concerns. Olmo at LW under Xavi would’ve been disastrous but I could see him excelling in the Flick system. Coming inside for combinations in the center could be productive. Interested to see how Yamal does with that as well – he was more central in the Spain euro run and that was exciting. Most notably for that goal against France

    Great analysis as always!!

  2. Barcelona are in for a tough season. Madrid look like an irresistible force already. Not sure the same coach that was holding 4 to Japan a few months ago is the right man to lead what will need to be an underdog effort.

  3. Pretty sure this will be a far more entertaining season than we've seen in years. The coming inside is exciting. Rigid positions with wing play as a steady diet is so damn boring.

  4. You made a tweet saying Hansi Flick's Bayern outperformed their XG. Please do your research well coz it's never true. Hansi Flick's Bayern Munich generated 3.2 XG averaging 3 goals per game and that's the best statistics recorded ever since they started playing the German League( Bundesliga) still even today the record still stands. Barcelona just have lazy attackers who don't work hard to score goals especially when the team needs them.

  5. Idk what happened they played so directly and cooly in friendlies. But while facing monaco suddenly they were like they dont know what to do. Like a kid who forgot his elocution speech on the stage.

  6. I agree with most of what you said, except that Gavi will have a bigger role than Casado – simply because Casado is incomparably better in organizing the attack, passing game, defensive positioning, etc…
