VdV‘s got a point though. Rice is nowhere near being worth that much.
Spot on, but in think VDV was giving him more credit. I only saw Rice hiding behind other players not showing for the ball in the tournament.
With the exception of the "he's useless" comment, he's spot on. A 100million player should be able to pass forward.
Calling him useless is harsh but anyone thinking he is a world class midfielder needs to get their head examined, if you look at proper World Class midfielders past or present, so let's say a GOAT is 10/10 and World Class is 9/10 and an average midfielder is 5/10. I would say Declan Rice is a 6/10 at best on average. Of course anyone can preform at a higher level than usual.
Vdv was a great passer and spurs paid under 12m for him
Van der Vaart is spot on. The stats are misleading and padded due to the way England played but, he was partly or directly responsible for three goals conceded, two in the Euros and one against Iceland due to have no tactical or spatial awareness off the ball. Realistically, he is worth about 5mil, but “English tax” pushes that transfer fee so much higher.
I think Rice has been a great signing for Arsenal but I cringed at times watching him trying to keep hold of the ball.
But that’s not a criticism of just him, for decades, England players have looked so limited technically when up against nations like Spain.

Rice is competent at what he is paid to do which is break up play and be a pivot in the midfield, yes he is limited in his attacking play but why are we expecting the cdm to be setting up goals for the forwards, where is the 8 and the number 10 what is their role exactly if the cdm has the responsibility to assist goals. He is not worth a 100m but english tax takes him to that number but I have no problem with Rice as much as I do with Foden and Bellingham who probably combined are worth a quarter of a billion but both have been a shambles all tournament. Its not because of Rice we lost, its because of Southgate ball and underperforming overhyped primadonna's

It’s funny, all these comments do is show people are salty that Arsenal signed Rice. I agree, he didn’t have the best tournament but neither did Bellingham, Kane or Foden who people would say are worth 100 million.

As an Arsenal fan I agree with the part about Rice's ability to pass the ball forward, we've been watching him all season and even we have to admit that he needs to improve that side of his game.

Fickle people here. No one questioned his price before this tournament when he was playing with Arsenal. The reality is, whatever the price tag, everyone played below their worth at this tournament.
Did nothing but repeatedly win possession back for his team all tournament, something he is ELITE at. You can’t name another player in the England team that did anything ELITE this tournament.
Rice is clearly the scapegoat for how poor this England side were. Foden, Bellingham, Trippier, Walker were all fucking ordinary.
