  1. It still absolutely baffles me that some fansโ€™ thought process goes along the lines of โ€œoh Onana is a 30m pound holding midfielder so i expect him to do outstanding things or be our talismanโ€.

Do they expect 30m pound CBโ€™s to be talismen as well?

Heโ€™s never been a talisman in his career so itโ€™s their problem if anyone expected that at Everton

  2. i think pickford's loyalty to the blues makes sense when you think about it from his perspective–so many outside of our bubble slate him. it's rival fans, pundits, the media in general, remember when thibaut courtois had a dig at him as well? the plastic dinosaurs ffs. whereas with us he's gotten absolute adoration. moreover, a lot of us have taken up the fight in his name versus the weird newcastle fans on twitter. there's a two way appreciation going on there imo.

i've said it before but it's happened for us like that with a lot of players over the years. dunc, richarlison, et al–in some way maligned or rejected by broader society but absolutely adored at goodison. dunc's troubles were well documented. richarlison would get criticised every week by carragher it seemed like. there's some kind of blueprint there isn't there? we love a tenacious, scorned, "reject" for want of a better word. and they often love us. i'm all about it.

speaking of richarlison, the rumours floating around twitter that we asked about richarlison while doing the dele deal have got my stomach in knots. DCL wants out then so be it, but if we get some cash plus the onana money we have to try something for richy surely? just trying not to think about it haha.

    aaaaaanyway!

well in for the podcast as always. always excellent stuff from the blue room.

  3. Dave itโ€™s not just a case of buying potential with Onana, a team would be buying a DM whoโ€™s dominant in defensive duels (his duel win percentage proves that, not biased eyes).

He was also recorded as one of the quickest PL players last season (again this is measured, not biased eyes)

Heโ€™s already proven he can play alongside better players in a possession team for Belguim and can also cover CB plus heโ€™s only 22 with captain experience.

  4. In the Final people were criticising Pickford for kicking the ball long but that was down to the fact that our central defenders were panicking when they received the ball and were not making triangles or using the fullbacks to eliviate the press Spain were putting on us at the back..!! He had NO CHOICE but to go long and + it was blatantly obvious Harry Kane wasn't fit (same all the way through the Tournament) that he had no-one upfront to play/pass up to..!! When the Spanish blackline had the ball we didn't press them at all until Watkins came on and then we started to play and press the Spanish defenders so their keeper was panicking and playing it long, basically we played the Final with 10men for 60mins until Kane got subbed, that comes down to Kane's ego and wanting to score and be a hero instead of doing the right thing for the good of the England team and telling Southgate at HT I'm running through treacle so take me off..!! The difference in England once Watkins came on pressing the Spain blackline and then Cole running at them we could have won the Final in the last 15mins once we'd equalised if Southgate had been brave and put Gordon on the leftwing to run at Carvhal who looked knackered, Gordon would have ripped him to bits and Cole and Watkins we'd have got a 2nd goal but Southgate made them sit back again to get to ET at 1-1 instead of killing them off when we had them on the ropes..!! Pickford had another GREAT TOURNAMENT ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™ UTFT

  5. as a villa fan iโ€™m amazed weโ€™re paying ยฃ50m for a player who canโ€™t hold down a place in your team

itโ€™s obvious why weโ€™re getting him cause of his aerial duel stats
