England’s FIRST Game Of EURO 2024! Serbia vs England Tactical Preview

right then biggest game this weekend I think or the most watched game probably from um most of my viewers at least is uh England against Serbia now I have covered England a little bit and I’ve Amed them um and I’m you know probably going to do a little bit of that in this video still but um we are going to preview how they’re going to do against Serbia um and then we might start looking at some other teams in terms of previews um but I think Southgate must feel relieved there’s been some real tough groups that have been drawn and I don’t think England’s group is all that one they are the highest ranked team in the group um but you know being assigned as pre-tournament favorites I’m not sure there’s any room for complacency in any sort of dropped points in the group stage is going to leave people pretty pissed off and they they come into this in a weird spot I think really weird spot not the sort of high that they’ve gone into tournaments previously with uh and the injuries that they’ve got is probably more significant than they’ve had in in any of the recent campaigns as well I would think um now on the other hand Serbia come into this um with their own struggles and they’ve had mixed form but two wins and two losses um you know I think maybe that they come into this thinking one win because he three teams going through one win’s probably going to um put you into The Knockout stages I would think now if you look at Serbia and see how they rock it up but the manager favored system is a 3421 now he does frequently switch his formation so it could be different against uh England and that does make trying to figure out what he’s going to do quite unpredictable but he does rely on a lot of positional interchange especially when making substitutions he likes to play with a back threee where he can uh and that would mean the team are going to try and Gain Control in the middle third through positioning of the back line but also the forwards dropping in deep so they try and make it narrow and they try and make it compact Serbia’s back three do like to stay up high push right up against the Midfield and try and retain possession by keeping on the ball a little bit between them and the goalkeeper and the team’s shape um with the forwards dropping into deeper positions gives them a chance to actually dominate possession even if they’re not going to create a ton of goal scoring opportunities uh and they don’t tend to play with a whole lot of risk they’re going to hold the ball nice um and that was one of my issues with the way England seemingly want to play um with a with a with a team and a Personnel that are going to want the ball to feat there’s a lot of people going to be playing in between the lines but no one looking to stretch them and when you’ve got a team that wants to force up and they’re going to have probably seven players in the back line and Midfield they’re going to really try and stifle England this could be a very low-scoring game this if England win it it could be a one- nil job nil nil might not be a bad bet in this one now they’re going to look to try and establish control by like I said overloading that sort of central area and then progressing the ball by moving it down the flanks um a bit of a common theme that they have is that they they are prone to mistakes and losing possession uh quite often they seem to overplay at times and there’s a lot of individual errors because well the quality is just not the same level as what you’re used to seeing in the top end of the champions league and also probably within the England t Team itself um they Le they concede a lot of shots they actually cone a lot of penalties and the team really does lose the ball from from inaccurate passes um which can lead to Quick turnovers so if england have got players that are going to press they’ll end up getting the ball and while they do prefer to dominate possession they do struggle to control a game because of that that pass completion rate not being quite as good as you would want it to be for a team that’s looking to hold the ball and that inconsistency of passing means that they are um struggling to create the chances on goal so even though they do have some players that can definitely hurt you it’s their own mistakes getting forward which is going to let them down um and I think that failure to create the opportunity is maybe it comes down a little bit to an overreliance on on Crossing but they do have players that are really good at receiving crosses so I can understand why they would want to do it once they reach the final third it does tend to get a little bit hopeful from him though um but if england switch off and we’ve seen them switch off defensively from crosses recently that could be a big way that Serbia uh can hurt um they do press they do press high they seem to counter press quite aggressively and because they’re going to have numbers in and around where England’s sort of final third players are they can afford to try and uh aggressively press and try and win the ball because they’ve got backups and fail safes if they do that now they do occasionally fail to cover some areas because they they do get overcommitted one to which side the ball carriers on um but also because they do aggressively press in sort of also circumstances if they lose the ball and they press hard and they’ve got a team that’s comfortable in possession now you would think England are that switch a play to the opposite flank and then moving it forward you should find yourself in space so if you have a watch of Serbia what you’ll see is that they do concede chances um down the opposite side to where they’ve lost it teams will win the ball move it to a safe player switch it get forward and Serbia haven’t had a chance to recover into those sorts of areas uh predicted lineup will be as follows and the staran ah for me it’s mitrovic man I like him he’s an absolute lunatic he had a brilliant season with Al Hill Al got 28 goals five assists uh in 28 games he was only behind Ronaldo when he came to scoring major major threat at set pieces should be fresh I think coming into the Euros unlike some players that have been grounding to the ground playing in Europe I think playing out in Saudi he’s probably had it just a little bit easier he’s technically better than people give him credit for I think he’s just bit of a an ed the ball but he I think he can play uh he’s got clever movement good decision making he is strong he’s a he’s a throwback Striker man and I think he’s an absolute pain in the ass um my England team it’s going to be pick for the net I think Walker and trippier will be your fullbacks it seems like it’s going to be gay and stones at Center half even though there’s some injury doubts amongst that um maybe you’ll see dunk I really think he’s going to play a Midfield three of Bellingham rice and Trent you’ve heard my thoughts on that and then I think the forward line will be foden Kane and sacka and you’ve heard my thoughts on that personally I think Gard or Bowen should be playing if if you’re going to play Trent I I I would play Mayu not because he plays for Manchester United just because he’s a better footballer um and he’s a better midfielder without a shadow of a doubt um England are going to need to have players that are going to get in behind and stretch this Serbian defense otherwise like if P’s peeling off into space like do you know what I could even make a case for going with something really ballsy which means that there’s zero chance that you going to see G sgate do this but if he went with Bellingham and rice as a two because they’re not going to have to defend the transition very much against Serbia that’s not how they play right if he went with Bellingham and rice as a two and Kane and Watkins it would feel like a throwback 442 but in reality it wouldn’t be a 442 because the way Kan shapes up he’s basically a number 10 but then you’re always going to have someone stretching and pushing the line which should mean that Kane would drop off into space and then have some Wingers that are going to run sacka and let’s say Bowen and I and I actually think you could do a bit of Madness that’s not going to work against France but against Serbia I think that does Madness anyway let me know your thoughts on that and the star man for England it’ll be hurry Kane it’ll be hurry kanane he’s genuinely worldclass goal scorer it’s HurryCane do you think England will win all three group frequently can you get the ball into space and then can you attack the space um having Trenton and then nobody that’s going to run in behind is just it’s just dumb to be honest with you um and you don’t necessarily need to have someone that’s just going to spam balls in behind even you just need to be able to switch and then play it forward which everybody that I selected at least could do that Kane’s going to pull off into um the half space if you’ve got players ahead of him that are going to challenge the back free and stretch them you’re going to cause them all sorts of problems um you know they lose the ball on inaccurate passes so let’s go with a forward line that’s going to harass and press them and and force them to turn it over in their final third before they get set behind the ball and you’ll do Madness to them then you just got to limit set plays the Midfield and the strike force is their strength the defense is not but the quality of their attack especially vlahovic um you know you you’re going to have to be wary with them and I think he doesn’t match up well against Stones I think that’s a that’s a mismatch and if if you’re getting vlahovich against stones on a regular basis they could end up getting a goal and if they get a set piece England ain’t the biggest team man um I mean maybe that’s why you bring in someone like a Watkins as well see what sort of defensive work he can do but they are a major major setpiece threat so you got to watch out for that with them but there you go that’s uh that’s how I think England and Serbia is going to go I actually think it’ll be a real tight game uh and I am going so I’ll I’ll uh I’m definitely sat with the England fans which is a pain in the ass um I would much rather be sitting with the serbians and
