I think if we want to continue having Russo as our starting striker we need a no 10 with good decision making and a natural instinct for goal. Sounds like Miedema but then she’s not the energiser bunny type of player that Jonas likes. Don’t think the team can continue the same press with a front two thing. I really hope she stays for at least another season because I want to see how that works out. When she’s been on you do see flashes of the player she can be/was. But when you think of the ‘big games’ those are especially the ones that Jonas likes to use a rather intense press in. Hence I think for that to work it would take quite some compromise from both the player and club.
I think Maanum is actually still rather promising. She’s missing the decision making aspect but she’s still young (albeit not very) so she has time to develop that and can be a more long term option for us. Apart from her we don’t really have another player who fits that profile. Pelova definitely doesn’t have that instinct in front of goal and is more CM.
Hope Kuhl trusts the development team if they decide to send her out on loan again. Find her a club that would play her in the position that she’s being groomed to play in. Right now I would start Little and Walti any given day. They’re still world class players who are so important to the way we play but in recent seasons and as they’ve got older they have also been more susceptible to injuries. More regular rotation would be a good option.
If we make a deep CL run next season I imagine the ‘excess’ players we have won’t be too much of an issue. Players like KCC etc would definitely see more game time.
