Erik ten Hag has a lot of problems to solve at Manchester United but arguably the biggest that’s holding back his style of play is goalkeeper David De Gea. United’s number 1 is a traditional shot stopper and is arguably closer in style of play to a 90s keeper than the sweepers that we see in the modern game. The Dutchman has made big calls over this position in the past. With Andre Onana still banned at the start of last season, Ten Hag signed then, 37 year old, Rem-ko Pass-veer to play in goal over former Dutch International, Maarten Steklenberg. Ten Hag did this because Pasveer was a far better goalkeeper in possession, allowing him to reliably become an 11th outfielder and help Ajax to outnumber the opposition in build up. Unfortunately for David De Gea, this is just not his strength. In fact, since 1st July 2016, De Gea has made the second most errors leading to goals in the Premier League.

So what are we looking for? First, the goalkeeper needs to be good with the ball at their feet and comfortable under pressure. Statistically speaking this means lots of touches and accurate passes. Next, they need to be comfortable sweeping off their line, enabling a high defensive line. This means lots of defensive actions outside the box and a high average distance for these actions.Being a good shot stopper, so having a high save percentage or over-performing their xG is also important, as well as the ability to stop crosses.

There are a LOT of goalkeepers just around Europe who could compete with David De Gea and just focusing on players under 25, Man Utd could look at: Islan Meslier from Leeds; Robert Sanchez from Brighton; Dominik Livakovic from Dinamo Zagreb; Yann Sommer from Gladbach; Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord; Florian Muller from Stuttgart; and Maarten Vandevoordt from Genk. But the goalkeepers I rate highly for the role are Marseille’s Pau Lopez; Bochum’s Manuel Riemann; and Brentford’s David Raya.

give dean handerson the no 1 spot.. no need to look elsewhere
Yassine Bounou
You seriously cannot expect united to replace David De Gea with a 33 year old with one year of experience in a top 5 league..
We could use dean henderson when he comes back from loan he basically fools most of the criteria
Vicente Guaita would also be a good addition
last season i critic him for not keeping clean sheets same people abuse me online are crying now . I'm happy
So any one is better then De Gea
What about Patrick Pentz the Austrian keeper of Reims…? Also Sanchez of Brighton…
Alphonse Areola 29 6ft 5" valued under £20M presently West Ham No.2, potentially world class keeper in the making to Us he's a much better keeper than DeGea & Henderson that has all the attribute to be the best. A Modern Elite Keeper United should sign next if they want to go to the next level, you know where you stand with him.
Finally talking some sense
God barthez was so ahead of his time
There are so many options for GK but according to Fabrizio, United have 4 players in the list and so far he already mentioned Sommer and Vlachodīmos
so, next Summer besides RB, GK, & Striker what other needs do you project (other than selling off deadwood)
they'll need three with Maguire in defence
If Brentford didnt promoted David Raya is the GK Arteta will sign years ago
Dean Henderson in
Diogo costa David raya Robert Sanchez Mike maignan
I like Raya for this role. I still don't understand why Utd haven't sorted this out already in pre-season… It was obvious that De Gea would not be suited to ten Hag's style.
Dean Henderson from Nottingham Forest and Sergio Romero as back up
Hello, who should I talk to for video sponsorship, the email went no response.
The correct pronunciation of Remco Pasveer is simpeler than you think! Its "Pasvir".
You pronounce it Rayman. Btw 😉
SELL him quickly. De gea is a shit
Illan Meslier should be considered. the chance will be higher if Leeds manage to get relegated.
What about Diogo costa from Porto?
De Gea needs to be bench. He has lost his confidence.
Since the start of season I’ve seen massive improvements from David on the ball his pass and cross stats have sky rocketed by about 50%
Franchis uzuho
Its not de gea we have to worry about its fred Rasford and Bruno
No need to replace de gea. Best at shot stopping. He’s improved his distribution massively and will improve further as he plays more
Yassine Bono
Robert Sanchez or Yann sommer
I don't know why you don't give value to André Onana. And he's 26 🙁
No credibility. Where is Diogo Costa from FC Porto?
man utd keepers all time-
