Kalvin PhilYIPS? Nah, it's been reported he's unfit, lazy in training. The bloke is just a shit player.
While he's still with us we should sub Moyes on 65 minutes 🙂
Captain Zouma set the tone by hanging Phillips out to dry on his debut. Man City certainly didn’t do a great job of keeping him fit when you compare to how fit Lingard was in a similar circumstance at Man Utd when he came to us on loan.
Having said that, I question if Moyes necessarily knew where Phillips would fit in for our midfield set up, as he’s not really a defensive midfielder like Alvarez and he doesn’t do enough up both ends of the pitch like Soucek.
We needed a hybrid of Alvarez and Soucek for the additional midfielder. I’m not sure Phillips will be that even if he plays to his absolute best.
To me Kalvin Phillips was nothing more than a division 1 level player
I feel really sorry for Kalvin but you guys are right it is indeed a confidence issue and as a sportsman when your confidence is that low, what do you do? Go back to the drawing boards and heading to a lower club helps but in this case the Premier league might be too fast paced for him, he should do himself a huge favor and for 1 season atleast go to a club like Southampton Leicester Leeds, west brom which ever club don’t make it to the PL and regain his confidence and his stature because he will be getting regular first team football there, might be hard pill for him to swallow but it’s worth it in the long run and 100% sure Kalvin Phillips knows that this has nothing to do with West ham!
All these top footballers work alongside sports psychologists. No doubt he's struggling mentally, but I think physically he's no longer up to it at that level
12 games, 2 wins, 4 losses, 6 draws in 2024. 12 points and a minus goal difference. Yet still 7th but have been reeled in by the chasing pack. It is about time Moyes did what he tells us he does, “win games”.
Soccer is a different game, I understand the theory for golf, snooker, baseball and free throws in basketball. Therefore if this applied to JWP on free kicks I would see the link. Phillips has lost confidence throughout his time at City and has not yet got over his poor start at WHU. Definitely slow in thought though…but Pep said this a while ago (and pep also put him down on weight etc).
Darts was when I first heard of the yips, with Bristow.
I don't think it's confidence, I just think he isn't good enough anymore.
I've never thought Phillips was that good a player if Im honest. Even at Leeds and for England, I only saw someone that can do a few neat and tidy passes. Granted, he's much better than his time at West ham suggests, but I didn't understand why we went in for him at the time.
It's these sort of expensive signings from yesteryear that I wish we'd stop going in for. I have no desire to see Maguire here next season.
It could be a case that he's on 7.8 million a year with a 6 year deal at city and financially secure
Phillips is not hungry anymore and he's given up , same with lingard and many others
Good to see Michael again, great singer 🎶🎶🎶
For some reason, Phillips doesn't seem to understand the teams defensive approach , rushing out to press when everyone else is sitting back . He then gets bypassed easily
This Essex based snooker player, is it Ronnie?
I don't blame Calvin Phillips…. I blame Moyes for bringing in a player who hasn't played football for 2 years and is off the pace and has no confidence
Steidten should have full control of transfers now and this has been another expensive mistake
Interesting vid guys! Sports psychology is very powerful at fixing these sorts of issues. Takes time however.
Easy pink, tricky brown there Gonzo
Ow wow your snooker coach was called John wasket … he’s was my grandad.. I thought I recognised you lol
Did I see you in tenerife?
Had dartitis for 2 years never was as good again
Ironically Soucek's form has lifted since Phillip's arrival, as he was most under threat but his passing is still the weak link in the team.
Michael who?
I think Philips has personal problems going on behind the scenes that none of us know about. And we are looking for an excuse to why hes playing so poorly
I’d be amazed if Philips isn’t having sessions with a sports psychologist already. Bordering on negligence if he’s not. TBF, pretty much any player coming in on a loan in January should have an intro session regardless of their situation. It’s peanuts money & establishes a point of deep connection that can be developed as & when required.
The analysis of Phillips sounds very probable, and I would hope Moyes has someone at hand, I remember Big Sam was very strong on this.
The pressure of all the expectations of him coming from MC and working under Pep.
Terrible research with Kalvin-Phillips, as Guardiola had already publicity called him out & not played him for TWO YEARS. Upshot = Man City saw Moyes coming & are now getting handsomely rewarded for us getting him fit before returning him to Leeds. Bravo Moyes – all the tactical genius of a tadpole.
It seems to me like it's all the step before the final move in terms of Philips I feel it's the same in boxing nearly any trained boxer could knock someone out if they just stood there and took the shot I feel it's setting up the ko shot that's the hard bit … in terms of Phillips I think he's overthinking every pass instead of just doing what comes or perhaps came naturally in the past
No sympathy for MOYES – SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR WERE WE WANT TO BE – END OF
When you give a kid £250,000 a week for 18 months for no work it's like pulling the 1 arm bandit & getting 777 every week
No wonder he's hearts no in it
I wasn't on board with Phillips from the offset, the lack of game time over the last 2 years questioned his title as even a premier league player. I think you can take a punt on an attackive player in a loan, but from a defensive perspective, you can't paper over cracks. You need to learn the system, get fully up to speed and be ready to step in. Phillips ticks none of them, boxes. Feel sorry for the lad, but maybe he'll get a move back to leeds to reset the clock
MOYSE OUT NOW.
The way Philips lashed out at fans, told me something. It aligns with what Michael is saying. Something is not right in the head of Kalvin Philips. I hope he gets some help to get better in his head.
It’s great hearing that we’re disappointed only drawing with Villa and the Spuds and losing 4-3 to the Toon , showing us how far we’ve come
I think West Ham should have already brought in the specialist to try and help him I believe it would help
When Phillips joined I honestly thought it was a good signing for us. You expect a certain amount of bedding in time but in his case his limitations have been totally exposed. I thought he would fit perfectly into Moyes system but the truth is he is a shadow of the player he was at Leeds . Going to City in hindsight was a mistake by Phillips but I understand his motives. The reality is he is not a Pep kind of player and Pep has actually admitted as much . If Moyes is still at West Ham next season or not Phillips won’t be. He is not good enough for us. Moyes admitted that between the lines with his post Newcastle comments.
I feel bad for phillips. He came into a struggling side, he was thrown in very fast..he made a few mistakes so it agree.he has the yips. Some on here suggested professional help and it wouöd do him wonders. The pressure on these players is immense
Snooker/golf/darts etc, etc, is a game were you are in total control and are the causes of the action. Football and such like team sports, is a reaction to what actually happened a
short time before. Of course having a focused mind & lots of confidence, plays a major part on how you handle any situation. Pressure (or negativity) has an adverse effect on the
mental attitude of the participants (hence the purpose of all the flack directed to David Moyes) but it is an invisible force that either you embrace or chose to ignore.
Moyes took (a brave) punt on Phillips but sadly it hasn't worked out in our favour at the moment. Personally, I think he wasn't match fit & was found out! Now unless he's had a terrible
mishap or suffered from a trauma, then I think it's just case of lost form (as bad as that is) and just needs more time to regain it again. In the mean time a few sherbets & a laugh helps!
In golf its called 'the yips'
sports psychology is so important.. and you see the top teams with their mindset definitely using it.. managers included, they don't answer any negative questions and stay in the moment. I feel Lanzini also would have benefited from this since he lost confidence after his car accident imo. Also Ward Prowse needs it to overcome this hurdle of equalling Beckham's record
Great draw 😳 you were doom & gloom on the review … usual click bait stuff
I didn’t catch the game how did Edson play on his day back?
Cantante*
I think if u look at the Philips on Gordon penalty you see Phillips look up, I think he takes that extra time to clear it bcos he's looking to set off a counter, it wasn't just an attempt clearance… Don't think he'll make any impact with us now tbh but hope he gets his game back, for his sake ⚒️
I will forever miss Craig Dawson 😢 what an incredible defender with fight and pride for the badge, one of my favourite players for sure ⚒️
