With Ferran Torres there is an undercurrent of scepticism that, on the worst days, leads to hate on social media. Is there any truth to it? Let’s find out!

There is a recurrent phenomenon with Ferran, settling the accounts of our expectations. Each performance is accompanied by the crutch of the money he cost.

The scrutiny includes a biased view of his football. People are projecting a footballer whom he has never been. The cost of his signing has caused qualities which he is not blessed with to be taken for granted. Ferran is a winger, but he has never been a pure dribbler. He wasn’t at Valencia and he wasn’t at City.

Guardiola knew this and looked for contexts that favoured his best qualities: being close to goal and taking advantage of his movements without the ball.

“He is a young player and can play in three positions up front. He came as a winger but perhaps he should consider playing as a centre-forward. He has the intuition to know exactly where the ball will go. Every time he plays in that position he has a real sense of goal.”

Ferran has been harmed by the story that accompanies Barça wingers. Excelling in one-on-ones is expected from them. We have seen it this season with profiles like Dembélé, Adama, Abde or even Ilias. Or in the past with players like Neymar or Figo.

But Ferran Torres is something else. He is a facilitator. A footballer who improves his teammates. A striker who creates partnerships with his movements. A winger who has among his best qualities the ability to lose his marker, an aspect that Barça has missed in recent years.

Anyone who’s played knows the difference between having a teammate who wants it to his feet or one who’s constantly on the move. His contribution is reminiscent, in this sense, of Pedro’s in Messi’s Barça. With the Canarian, he also shares a taste for goals, his competitive nature and the defensive work of modern forwards.

Ferran has produced 13 goals in 22 games and has done so playing mostly on the left wing, a position that is not his. Seven goals and six assists, numbers that are above the most brilliant winter signings.

Luis DĂaz (45 million, Liverpool) has accumulated 5 goals and 3 assists in 21 games. Vlahovic (80 million, Juventus) has 7 goals and 2 assists in 17 games. Ferran’s figures deny the idea that he is a player of intangibles. His impact on Barça has been that of a top player, despite the fact that he has lowered his performance in recent weeks.

Xavi is the first to maintain that he has been the best signing of the season and that he is a key structural footballer in his project. At 22 years old, Barça not only invested in the current Ferran Torres, but also in the player he could become.

  1. Quality stuff. Expecting better mics. Buga plays the host beautifully , good intricate questions. Love it. Can always bring someone who offers that counter view on things to make it spicier.

  2. Ferran was a waste of 60 million and I fear raphinha will be too, why did we spend 60 million on a rw when we have dembele, abde, collado, ilias all coming through? Ferran is not a winger nor is he a striker so where does he fit into the team? Memphis can at least make a goal for himself and win 1 on 1s to make up for not really fitting into the team, what does ferran do.

Back to raphinha, he hasn't beaten his man once all season. I'll be lenient on him since this is his first season but still.

  3. I also don't like calling players bad however ferran hasn't shown me anything to keep giving him the benefit of the doubt. Dembele I had faith in because his issue was not performances it was fitness. Ferran it's both. He misses sitter after sitter and derails attacks. He has to prove the fans wrong. We all want ferran to do well just like with all players, the issue is we don't have faith in him and he is proving us right. If the three chances he had in the celta game fell to ansu, we would have won at least 2 nil. And ansu is another one where fitness is the issue. I'm more willing to have faith in a player who's issue is not his performances but rather his physical well being.

  5. I'm not like one of these fans that think Ferran is terrible but I will say that he might feel the weight of playing at a big club. He could probably be playing well on a B level club. Where expectations are high but maybe not at the level of an elite club. And to the point of Ferran playing out of position I think that's a fair discussion but definitely not as a valid excuse. I believe he needs time and more encouragement. It will be difficult to get both in this squad.

  6. Ferran isn’t a bad player. But right now we don’t need a player who is still developing, and is not consistent here We already have Ansu who’s still only 19 and is still developing, but has usually scored goals when he’s on.

Ferran loses the ball way too much. If you’re going to lose possession, try with dribble in the final third. But no, he doesn’t seem to have that 1 v 1 flair raphinha and dembele have.

His shots are too inconsistent this season. If Ansu had the chances Ferran has had, I’m sure most would be in the back of the net.

Ofc there’s pressure on him. Xavi believes in him. Luis Enrique for the NT always plays him. So, we just have to back him up. He’s at our club, we need to support him just as we do with Raphinha and Dembele.

  7. is ferran a reflection of barca
is he convincing hisself before barca
    ❓
how long do i have to object
    let’s not waste anyones time

    kindly : #FerranOut AtleticoM

  8. fella plays like a midfielder. how does such squad need another midfielder out there.
    stationed on the wing yo
we need a deadly winger đŸ•șđŸș

  9. my opinion
    every barça account and channel
should once in a while discuss if we
shouldn’t just drop Ferran at atletico
    and suggesting getting ourself J.Felix

    đŸ€„ïž domino–effect
put pressure to reality in what we want
    take matters into own hands

  10. dream–team tiki taka

    ansu fati — moukoko
    messi
    j.felix — pedri — gavi — b.silva
    frenkie — araujo — koundĂ©

  11. I think we should have some patience with Ferran, let's look at things objectively…take out Lewandowski…which of our forwards at the moment is giving you confidence? who isn't lacking in the final third? is Raphinha balling out of the world? Ansu? Dembel sure he can dribble past 4 players..but is he scoring?

  12. He is mentally not ready to play, but if he is fixing his problems, he can be a useful player for us. Its not just his finishing is the problem, his confidence is gone, after the injury like ansu Fati he doesnt do the right things in the right time.

  13. If Ferran doesn’t improve by the end of the season then Barca need to sell him bc he’s still young and has a good market value still. But if we keep him more than 2 seasons and if he doesn’t improve then thats just wasting time & money bc Barca need results! everyone needs to pitch in and score goals! Ferran can’t dribble, create chances or score anymore. I don’t want to wait for years for a player to improve bc we could be using his salary on getting another player better than Ferran

  14. The fact that man city was willing to give him away on payments should have been a red flag but we were so deep in shite at the time

  15. Guys please NO. The guy is light, easily and frequently disposessed ( not only in the final third). And he doesn’t score. You call him an attacker? He does drag down Barcelona because Xavi keeps on trying him instead of building back minutes for Fati, who NEEDS to come back to his form.

  16. Firstly, Farren hasn't done anything to justify any potent potential! Yeah he scores and assist a couple last season but remember also, he wasted far more than what he merely converted. Ferran only have one thing going for him really which is Positional awareness. Other the that, he has nothing more

  17. If a man has a deficiency , then it is that coaching should identify it and fix it soon …. Just give him a personal trainer and expert advice to improve his shooting skill…. That support from the coaching staff will change his current form and confidence …..

  18. We can’t deny that when he came to the club on paper it looked like it would work. Ferran has had everything in his favor and it still hasn’t worked out. I think he either needs a loan to regain confidence or we sell him.

Biggest benefactor of Spanish bias at Barça (and that says a lot). We sold off malcom and imo he showed more during his time at barca than ferran so far
