The Dutch were able to take advantage of Argentina sitting back defending a lead in regulation time. They couldn’t play the same way in extra time as Argentina went on the front foot again and Almost won it multiple times before pens. She’s right – Dutch were playing for pens. Totally ugly from Argentina. Like him or not, Van Gaal, deserved respect at this stage of his life considering all he's gone through. There's more important things in life than a mere soccer game, respect and sportsmanship are just a few. Netherlands deserved a more worthy opponent. Many, including me, will be getting off the Messi train after these disgraceful antics.

I'm Dutch and I completely agree. The best match in the tournament from our side was against USA, where we had 35% posession. We scored two wonderfull goals from counters. Also the second half of yesterday's match was a good style of play. I was baffled during extra time to see the team reverting back to the useless first half style of play.
Right now I even dislike the total football system. It's done, opponents ahve adapted it's not effective anymore. The endless passing and positioning without result is far from fun to watch. The box to box battles has much more spektacle.
Emi is a classic Argentinian plastic hard man. Talks to the coaches who are elderly. Talks to a man who is lying on the ground, standing over him. When Van Dyke was around, Emi was nowhere to be seen.

what the commentator doesn't appreciate is the mentality of the argentina team… in extra time argentina no longer had the lead – obviously… so sitting back was no longer an option, you don't want to go to penalties against a team you can beat on the pitch
so now at 2-2 in extra time argentina needed and wanted to attack again, hoof it anti-football is no longer an option because argentina is no longer committed to 100% defending, they are going to attack and if you are leaving your defenders up the pitch you are going to concede
