He doesn’t owe anyone an explanation.
We are beyond the days when this was an amateur sport. His career is a business, his body is a commodity, and as the business owner, he has a right to allocate his resources as he sees fit.

Southgate has favorites. All coaches have favs, but it shouldn't be so obvious. Additionally, some of the players – even Defenders – shouldn't be playing. We're happy w him at Arsenal tho.

Ben white has said it before he actually doesn’t like formal football nor would he play if he wouldn’t earn the amount that he does earn, he even admitted he doesn’t like watching and nobody in his family watches football that shows you enough you need to know about why he would reject a call up he’d rather vacation elsewhere than play more football than is already needed
