It still blows my mind that this will be Portugal's first World Cup quarterfinal appearance since 2006 (Cristiano Ronaldo's first ever World Cup. Yes, in 2010, they finished second in their group and lost in the Round of 16. In 2014, they failed to even make it out of the group. And in 2018, they again finished 2nd in their group and again lost in the Round of 16)! How in the world did that happen to a team that arguably is as stacked with talent as any other team out there, and during the era where arguably one of the greatest players of his entire generation was playing for them?!
