Why Didn’t VAR Award Liverpool A Penalty For Jeremy Doku’s Tackle On Alexis Mac Allister
Liverpool and Manchester City played an exhilarating Premier League match at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The game ended in a draw, with John Stones scoring an early goal for City, which was later equalized by Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty in the second half.
Liverpool dominated the second half and had better chances, but Luis Diaz missed a couple of opportunities. However, many spectators at Anfield believed that Mac Allister should have been awarded another penalty in stoppage time after being fouled by City’s Jeremy Doku.
Despite a brief VAR check, the referee’s decision stood, and the match concluded. VAR concluded Doku had played the ball during the challenge.
The draw did not change the Premier League standings for either Liverpool or City, with Liverpool now second on goal difference after Arsenal’s victory over Brentford.
City remains one point behind their rivals. The title race will pause next weekend for the FA Cup, with City facing Arsenal in late March, marking the final match between two of the season’s top three contenders.
