This team did very well for the players that they had and achieved beyond expectations. I don't think it's correct to say that they were better than the golden generation. The '06 team faced a star filled Brazil with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Kaka etc, matched them for most of the game, and many times outplayed them and could of won. They also matched the world champions of that tournament Italy but lost due to a very questionable penalty and could of made it to the semis.
Aussie soccer is doing alright. Remember up until 2006 it was like 30 years since they last qualified. It would be a shame if this qualification trend ended at next World Cup

A goal is a goal, but the one V Argentina was pure luck. I just find amusing the idea australia can win a World Cup because two wins in a row.
