I’m on my way back home from an away game, a game which we won 5-0, but still I can’t help but feel disappointed and sad.
Yesterday was international women’s day.
Today my teammates and I had to listen to aggressive misogynistic abuse for 90+ minutes by a group of supporters of the other team.
I just can’t understand how some people would even think of using this kind of language and verbal abuse and I’m really sad and disappointed that it was allowed to continue throughout the whole game.
Why were these people not removed?!
Why was this kind of behavior accepted?!
We could hear them on the field, the referees could hear them and surely everyone in the stands could hear them. I really hope there weren’t any children witnessing this…
After the game I walked over and confronted these people. Can’t say it went too well and I just had to endure more abuse. Football should be a safe place for everyone and I refuse to accept this kind of behavior.
I really hope there will be some repercussions and that this type of behavior will be punished.
Please think about how you behave at games and what type of example you want to set to the children watching the game, and please show that you won’t accept it if others are behaving badly.
This was a cup match in Sweden, their opponent was IFK Göteborg who I think plays in Div 1 South, aka third tier in Sweden.
Post is from two days ago, in case you’re wondering why “yesterday” was IWD.
Men as spectators make everything so sinister sorry
