Ruben Dias intensifies title debate with jab at Liverpool player.
Ruben Dias of Manchester City has responded to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s remarks regarding the significance of trophies to Liverpool compared to City.
Alexander-Arnold characterized City as a ‘machine’ in light of their recent trophy-laden seasons under Pep Guardiola, notably winning the treble last season, which included their first-ever Champions League title.
This exchange sparked a war of words between the two clubs, with Erling Haaland also joining in by boasting about the three trophies won by Guardiola’s team last season.
The upcoming match on Sunday between the two sides could be viewed as an early title decider. Liverpool could potentially lead by four points at the end of the weekend, while a victory for City at Anfield would see them overtake their opponents.
In an interview with BBC Radio Manchester, Dias stated, “We’ve achieved a lot in this club, especially last year with the treble. It’s clear to us, and to our fans, how significant it was for all of us. Winning titles brings a certain emotion that can only be understood when experienced firsthand. A treble is a feeling that one can only comprehend by actually achieving it.”
“I believe that at a club like Man City, and in my previous club, our greatness is demonstrated in a manner that these comments do not affect us. We are aware of our achievements and what we are striving for in the future. We do not seek validation from others; we do it for ourselves.”
“The success of others is based on their own accomplishments. Our focus is on ourselves, and that’s the path to progress and greatness as a club. We don’t dwell on others’ achievements or attempt to diminish them based on convenience.”
Earlier, Alexander-Arnold expressed to FourFourTwo magazine, “We’re competing against a machine designed to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their setup. Reflecting on this era, although they’ve won more titles and have possibly been more successful, our trophies hold more meaning for us and our fans due to the circumstances at both clubs, financially. How we’ve built our teams and the manner in which we’ve achieved it probably holds more significance for our fans.”
