The USMNT has a hot debate up top, who should start at the “9”? Josh Sargent, Ricardo Pepi or Balogun.

On the winger position Pulisic is the clear frontrunner but who is number 2?
Today we will build a USMNT Depth Chart for the forwards.

  1. One half for Balo, One half for Pepi or Sargent. Rinse and repeat until you see who has the right impact in a given situation. Each player will have a chance to prove why they are the starter.

  2. There is no clear depth chart at striker. The clear top 5 options are Sargent, Pepi, Balogun, Pefok, and Vazquez. At wide forward, there is no clear #2 behind Pulisic. There is no quality depth at the position. Weah is at best stop gap–a fullback playing in the attack. The best thing to do would be to switch to a different formation.

  3. With the rosters being only 23 players, you have to decide the benefits of bringing in a third striker or adding more depth to another position (midfield).

Last summer's nations league, we only had two center forwards (Balogun/Pepi) on a 24 man roster. We brought in 7 forwards- Aaronson, Booth, Pulisic, Weah, Zendejas, Pepi, and Balogun

  4. Pepi needs to start has scored more, the championship ain’t all that the only reason why is because it’s in England but it’s top 15 league at most not top 5 not top 8 or top 10

  5. Haji is heads and shoulders above Pepi. Pepi is actually completely irreverent for the purposes of our NT.

Also it’s insane how a guy who’s leading all English Pro Football in Gp90 can be compared to a guy who can’t get PT.

  6. I agree but the truth of the matter is Pepi scores more on NT than Sargent or Balo. Every time he steps on the field he scores. Balo is more talented but he shouldn't start until he's had more minutes with NT and proves he can do better than Pepi.

  7. When you're selecting the 9s, I'm wondering whether you're looking at it from right "NOW" meaning today or generalizing with historical (last season) facts? If it's todays stats and form, wouldn't the top spot be Sarg and then Pepi with Balo pulling up the rear? Never is Palo being left out, but by todays form he's sucking it up.

  8. Personally I don’t understand why Pefok has to undoubtedly 4 he’s scoring the same amount or more as the other strikers and he’s playing at the highest level🤷‍♂️

  9. Balogun is clearly #1 but Berhalter has no idea how to use him correctly. He needs to play on the shoulder of the last defender and break the offside trap to catch through balls from the #10, or run at defenders with the ball at his feet. He's not allowed to do either of those things in Berhalter Ball.

  10. Balogun isn't having his greatest season, like I've said before he's a young guy that still needs to learn some things, he's not the finished article yet, he's also in a team that tactically isn't built for him, Reims hit teams ok the break more, teams defend deeper against Monaco he still has to learn to play a different style to what he's used to, he probably will, but it'll probably take a bit of time, regarding Pepi he's another young guy who right now gets to learn from Luuk De Jong (a seasoned pro and former Dutch international) something I imagine he'll benefit massively from, don't forget a players prime is usually ages 27-31, the future looks quite bright for you guys
