Gonzo looks at yesterdays article in Claret & Hugh where it’s suggested that we’ll pay agent Johnathon Barnett ‘whatever it takes’ to force Maxi Gomez to West Ham.

Celta Vigo Striker Gomez has indicated his preference to stay in Spain but the Hammers have dispatched The Stellar Group agency to convince him otherwise at all costs.

Agent Barnett calling Irons shots on Gomez deal

  1. Also I don't think it's wise to pay too high wages as like with Hernandez being on £145k you get others playing up about it and wanting more. Plus he's unproven in the EPL.

  2. To much money to the agents to much money for a very average player..a friend of mine follows Celta Vigo and he says they are laughing at the money we are willing to pay for a player who will not cope with the premier league…to big and slow for our league he tells me..depressing still at least its not welbeck or sturridge

  3. for birds cash is king, too bad gomez isn't a bird, if what you're saying turns out to be true then this will be a disaster, hopefully pellegrini/husllios have enough sense to move on

  4. Accepted opinion is that if a player doesn't want to play for you then you get rid of them as quickly as possible, see Arnotauvich.
Why then are we desperately trying to import a player that patently doesn't want to be here!

  5. Anderson transfer was last season's saga and, in comparison, I have to say that this one makes me increasingly uneasy the longer it goes on. We may have an overpaid, over hyped, underperforming, miserable player on our hands that is desperate to leave next year with bad, money grabbing agents swindling Sullivan and co. That said, we don't know the full story

  6. As soon as we knew he weren’t interested we should have walked away. We have waisted so much time, our first pre season game is on Thursday. We should have bought in a striker buy now and be playing him in pre season so he can get used to how the team plays and what the manager demand from him. I’m starting to worry

  7. if all true or close to truth its a complete joke .this is how low and corrupt football has got nowadays. just drop this deal right now and im glad rondon is not coming hardly a big signing is it .

  8. I think you are 100% spot on.
I think if this is true it is very very worrying, at no point has Gomez mentioned West ham United. My self I would love for him to come and give it a go at west ham because it has the potential to work very well , however the money they want is over priced. I would say £22million – £25 million, or £23 million plus throw in byram and hugill or what ever his name is. Every single point you made is a concern. P.s have you got that nice new away top yet or is it just for games so you don't spill tea down it?
    Norfolk Hammers .

  9. As said we have not directly heard from gomez and has Pellegrini spoken to him yet about his plan and vision …… let’s wait and see what he actually says!!!….. surely he can’t be as much as a 2 faced liar as arnie!!!

  10. If there’s one thing we know about modern day transfers, it’s that the actual player involved in the deal will have very little say in the matter and will be the last to know what is going to happen. There are so many different parties – with their own vested interests – who have to be satisfied first and foremost which is why these things are so long and drawn out and played out in the media. The player himself will be often be the last and easiest to deal with.

  11. How do you know he doesn't want to come to us Gonzo? Because you read an article? For every negative article there is a positive one. I don't believe he is stupid enough to think that getting knocked out in the champions league group stage is better for his career than being the markee signing for us in the top competition in the world. The Prem!
I always like to hear your opinions but I think your wrong here.

  12. Lots of mixed messages flying around. Was reading yesterday on a Spanish website the complete opposite, that Gómez’s agent said that you can’t make a player go to a team that he doesn’t want to play for.

  13. Making it out as if Gomez has no power at all, he does, he preference may well be Valencia but hes obviously not fully dismissive of us, even if its for money. Agents can not force him to sign a contract, if there was no interest from Gomez at all he would of refused it by now, if he does join its likely to be for monetary reasons of course, the same as all prem teams. Also you have based this entirely off arguments from just one side of an argument.

  14. Also this is being spoken as if doing a deal with agents like this is new, lets not forget when we signed Arnautovic we also signed another of his clients haksabanovic as part of the deal and god knows how much to arnies brother. Personally also don't think Gomez is worth this deal but I expect nothing less from any prem board

  15. I’m a Valencia fan but your take is interesting and true. It’s sad if true, the Premier League has so much money at their disposal and it’s very difficult to compete with them. Players have to stop signing with shitty agencies.

  16. come on gonzo……….this is east london…its a sweetner, bribe,..bung…without the brown envelope….has he said hes doesn't want to come to west ham or is it a preference ???

  17. The one thing we know about Pellegrini is that he does not want anybody who doesn't want to wear the shirt. If Gomez comes, it will be because he wants to, Pelle wont have it any other way.

  18. Completely agree with you Gonzo! It's for this reason I don't want him to come as we've just sold a player who doesn't want to be here, why would we pay to bring in another? Regardless of him being Pellegrini's no1 target, we should respect Maxi's feelings as his agent doesn't

  19. Why bother with gomez.its obvious he wants to stay in spain. Same shit different year…we never had these problems before we were foced to move to Stratford. Never been and no intention of going over…coyi

  20. I don't get your issue here.. if we had refused to pay the huge agents fees for Diop, Anderson, Formals and Yamalenko and failed to get them you'd be accusing the Board of being cheap! This is modern football and ALL clubs are doing it..

  21. I couldn't care less if he didn't originally want to come to us. With the odd exception (e.g. Mark Noble) footballers are mercenaries – get used to it. The good thing about this transfer is that we are showing ambition and determination. If we're paying a bit over the odds, quite simply, that is what a club like ours has to do if we want to compete with the top 6. I've got a good feeling about this – it smells like progress. I don't think he'll have any problems settling in – the manager, most of the staff and several of the players are Spanish speakers, and most important of all, he's the player the manager wants. He'll fit in – just you wait and see!
