  1. I am not that convinced. He'll be chased down and bullied off the ball to easily. He's a Yank, so can he kick a ball any better than that nameless goalkeeper?

  2. i gotta say, i am not excited about this signing…
i don't like that there is no option to buy, no future and Forest is just showcasing him to other teams.
and i don't like his (or his parent's) attitude – being confident is one thing, being cocky is very different. i don't want to see an entitled cry baby out there – Forest doesn't need that. does he have talent, sure – but there is going to be a cost…

  3. If you watched Gio right before his successive injuries that kept him out for much of a year and a half, he was forming an incredible partnership with Erling and becoming one of the best players in Germany at 19. Had an absolutely electric stretch of games. Was being named in those annual rankings as a top 5 u-20 in the world ahead of people like Foden and Bellingham. Had terrible luck with injuries that derailed that a bit but seems to be healthy again and looked amazing for the national team recently. Hopefully he’s back on his upward trajectory. IMO his best attribute is his mind. He sees passes before everyone else and has the quality to make them. Great close control too and sneaky good finishing.

  4. As a USA fan, I stand by this, I think he's better than Pulisic. I want him instead of Pulisic pulling the strings and the team to be built around him. Either he's not going to suit England at all or he's going to be a godsend

  5. Super stoked GR is gonna an opportunity with NF. You’re right that his best spot is the 10 given his ability to create and distribute. One important aspect you missed is his competitiveness. Gio wants to be great and he wants to win. And I’m not sure his very American approach to greatness and winning is well received in Germany(where players are expected to remain quiet and do exactly what they’re told.) He’s not the kind of player who will be happy with his performance in a loss. And he’s gonna let everyone know. So, be prepared for a moody, sulking kid when things aren’t going well. But, do not think for a second he’ll relent or give up. He’s not Weston McKinnie or Pulisic. He’s more like a Tyler Adams or Clint Dempsey.

  6. I wouldn't call him injury prone. He had that one injury that kept coming back because the Dortmund Medical staff kept pushing him back when it was too early. He kept reaggravating the same injury and that medical staff has since been fired. Take away that one muscle injury and he has that some minor illnesses and that one big broken ankle from the rude Canadians.

  7. The problem with Gio at the World Cup comes down to the incestuous nature of the USMNT. Claudio/Gio's mom and USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter have known each other for 35 years and things were expected because of this. Gio didn't cover himself in glory, but he was a young kid who was disappointed. The problem came with the parents.

  8. If everybody is fit to play, Reyna can play off the left. He moves a bit like Grealish in those clips, Wolvie! If MGW is out, he plays 10. If Elanga is out, he plays wide right. Hope he can keep fit because I can see him developing a good link with MGW.

  9. Just little info from an Americans perspective. He did have some issues with the coach which I feel for mostly driven by his parents, but since the parents have stepped out of it him and coach Berhalter have reconciled and the his fellow team USA players have embraced him..
Injuries have been a problem but he needed a new start and hopefully he will reach the potential we’ve seen in flashes since he was 16.. I’ll be rooting like hell for Nottingham forest, even if my man Matt turner is having a really tough time right now and list his confidence. Go forest!

  10. As a US fan, he should’ve played more at the WC as we are better team when he plays. His dad Claudio played a number of years for City. By all metrics Gio should be better than his dad. If he can mature mentally and stay healthy, he’ll be a great player

  11. You’re getting a steal. Hes a pure 10 that can play the edges, esp the right. Amazing ability to control the ball. Down side is his fitness. Need to make sure he’s stays on the pitch. If he can stay fit, he will easily be your best midfielder. Wait to see what he can do with the ball at his feet. We haven’t had a men’s team player with his ability to control the ball. As far as the nonsense during the World Cup, what can we say, our manager is a total moron. He left Ricardo Pepi at home in favor of MLS players. If you aren’t familiar with the MLS, THINK, Italian, seri B, without the threat of relegation or the prospects of promotion. It’s a garbage league.

  12. Man really said that gio is good on the press and that he is a workhorse with a straight face lol. USA fan here… You missed on that one, however get gio the ball and he will make things happen. Forest fans will defo be happy with this signing.

  13. His parents didn’t try to blackmail the US coach, they outed his dirty laundry in an attempt to embarrass him after Berhalter said at a conference that there was one player at the WC who had an attitude and who we almost sent home. That was private team info that Berhalter made public. So Gio’s parents, who have known Berhalter since his college days, told the world how Berhalter kicked the crap out of his then girlfriend now wife once when they were in college.

  14. You're already summed up the pertinent details about why Gio was wrong to move to the EPL. 1) wins free kicks (so he will get kicked a lot) 2) injury history from said kicking 3) usually surrounded by 2/3 players. Notice in the Bundesliga the defenders stand off from him. In England, Ryan Shawcross just kicks first and asks questions later and his manager and teammates rationalize it by saying "he's not that kind of player". If Gio starts playing, and Forest start getting results, it won't be for long.

  15. Remember, De Bruyne failed at Chelsea at age 20 first. It was only after returning to the EPL at age 24 and was managed by Pep did he reach his current heights.
