It feels quite different this time. A likeable squad. No building a team around a single ‘saviour’ player. And most importantly they don’t seem at all overawed by the competition. However Southgate lost us the Euro final, it was there for the taking. He has to prove he has learnt from that. If we go ahead against France and he again goes defensive in an attempt to protect one – or even two – goals, we are done for.
I think he do will be very important for England in the next game whether it's 4-3-3 or 5-3-2

Even when Simon talks about Henderson, he still lacks in the understanding of what Henderson has achieved. Can Henderson play against the big boys? He is the big boy Simon, he’s played and beat everyone
Man mark mbappe, pressure griezmann when he gets the ball since he is so so poor at ball control. Griezmann will be France's downfall.

We will find out on Saturday whether a Southgate England side can finally beat one of the best sides when it matters. I believe we have the players to do it. We have enough attacking talent to beat them. Will he let them free to do it though or will we get a start like the first half hour last night, where someone better than Senegal would have been a couple of goals up before we started playing. I'm hopeful, but we've met Croatia, Belgium and Italy in the last two tournaments and came up short each time. We seem to be the flat track bully, beat average to poor sides with no problem at all but rarely get over the line when we come up against better teams, that on paper, we have every chance against. If we go in with a defensive mentality I think we'll come undone even though we have the pace to counter on them and of course Southgate will be worried about them breaking on us if we play freely which is why I think he'll go with his usual cautious approach. Maybe I'm alone in this but I'd rather we went down all guns blazing than play like we did against Italy after we went 1-0 up.

French are the slight favourites ?… jordan has lost the plot …. England have played nobody yet and despite senegal being African champs the game against England was their worse performance… this game against France is de facto the final because if we beat France there shouldn't be an excuse for not winning it as our squad has got some depth to it apart from strikers now that sterling has gone home… the blue print for this game is that England lose again but it will be viewed as a success like the other failures over the last decade and southgate will get another contract.
Mbappe does not need service. You can’t build a gameplan around stopping a player from receiving the ball. We will just have to do with him and double up as and when he gets it. If we try to press griezmann and Rabiot too hard to prevent them from giving it to Mbappe he will simply drift more central and we definitely don’t want that.

Lol "when you are looking for someone that is going to dominate the midfield, Henderson might come up short' Don't half talk rubbish sometimes Simon. He's been playing at the highest level & dominating weekly for Liverpool the last 5 years leading them to multiple finals and a premier league. Liverpool are the most intense team IMO in terms of pressing and aggression. Yet he will come up short? Granted he's no Zidane, but he offers so much more, work rate, intensity, game management, he's vocal, he knows the game, so much experience…

There is One Fatal Flaw England has, same as the Euro2020 in 2021 against Italy.. if eng took the lead in the early mins of the game,eng is going to park the bus awaiting counterattacks..but eng's mental resolve is weak and this time its France..place for place they could match eng in the 1st team..giroud is better executioner of the ball than kane(WC statistics)..no one in eng camp can stop mbappe's pace and current form..any joe will know you'll heavily man-marked mbappe..once he switched it to the right for dembele to attack the ball..eng will be pretty much done..! !perhaps in shootout penalties is their greatest testament of England's Mental Resolveness…
I'd love to see England win the World Cup but either way, it's great to see we have a real world class national team. England are in the last 8 and there can be little doubt they are one of the 8 best national teams in world Football.

Nailed it. Southgate has never beaten anyone that he wasn't expected to beat. Germany in the Euros doesn't count.. for very obvious reasons.
According to my predictions England will land in the top 4, I am basing this on the 1966 world cup winning team who only scored 5 goals and won just the one game in the group stage, drawing the other 2, I made a prediction we would beat Senegal 3-0 and I couldn't quite believe the skeptisism pre game from wrighty, keane and neville, giving too much respect to Senegal who apart from Ismaili Sarr who plays for Watford I just thought they were a level below us plus they were one of the teams who qualified in 2nd, of course in football anything can happen and if they put one of there 2 chances away it would have been a different game, now onto France who as much as I love Giroud are essentially a one man team, take Mbappe out and they are a very average team, however they have him and we will have to deal with him, even though Kyle Walker is back he is still 3/4 games aay from actual match fitness so I expect Mbappe to get past him once at least so itr will depend if we have anyone behind to stop the 2nd ball, If England play well I expect them to beat France, even if they go behind they have the speed upfront and quality in the team to beat any other team so while I still think Brazil will win it, they don't seem to be as strong as I thought they would be so go bring it home boys
