You're 100 right. Declan Rice whilst a top edition plays like a CB playing in midfield. That's why he can't develop into an 8. He's not technical enough imo. A deep lying DM like Jorginho would add solidity and ability to break the lines or help control tempo. Zubamendi with Rice would probably be ideal. We gotta be careful we don't go from being too technical under Wenger, but weak physically, to compromising our ability to move the ball quickly in tight spaces by playing stuff, rigid, strong players. Rice adds that English extra dimension on his own imo.
I think as long as we know what we need and what kind if deals we can do then it's all good. I think summer is vest chance to get a striker 🤔. Not sure that's gonna happen in winter transfers. But wouldn't say Jo to amadou onana, as he would provide that strength we lack sometimes when teams get physical with us. We should maybe try and get that left back sorted out so we can cover the left back problem. In the end we just need ti fix our scoring problem by taking those chances more often. Maybe change the play slightly . Maybe it's time Arteta takes us back to our early half of last season when we were absolutely in fire and start that tactic as the plan b since plan A whilst defensively solid we just are nit scoring enough goals.
Just a thought or idea as teams think we don't do this tactic anymore. Let's trick our opponents and change the style every other game
Interesting you cite the example of left back and say we had 4 options. None of those options is actually a left back. Zinchenko is a midfielder, the others are central defenders. We really could do with an actual left back.
We are 5 players away from having the complete squad. Kiwior is not the guy imo. If we can’t do business in January for the RIGHT players, we should save it for the summer. Sell Cedric, Kiwior, Partey, Elneny, Vieira, Nelson and Nketiah. Bring in Inacio, Hato, Zubimendi, promote Patino, Adeyemi and Vlahovic. Also, Ramsdale is under a long term contract. Loan him to Brighton for the season and try Okonkwo as no.2 for the year, and if he’s not stepping up in the cups, look for a short term GK in January

Arsenal still need a quality striker, and I think that Stuttgart striker will be a better option because he also come cheap, Onana and the 2 strikers with one defender that can play anywhere in the back line
I remember the last time Arsenal over paid for an average at best midfielder from Everton who Arsene Wenger himself later confessed was his worse ever signing at the club
