USMNT midfielder Gio Reyna is being linked to Real Sociedad move from Borussia Dortmund this January and I’m breaking down if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I also discuss whether or not Balogun is struggling in Monaco and if so, why? Also, why have MLS transfers to Europe slowed down so much? Finally, I talk about why so many MLS-developed players are in Mexico’s latest U-16 Roster.

  1. Hey Pete! I was talking about the MLS transfer thing with someone too, and they suggested players are going off to Europe too young. I'm starting to wonder if it's best for our players to go at 20-22 now when they've fully dominated MLS, and are at the peak of what they can do. The talk was about someone like Wiley. Wiley still seems like he needs to prove he can be an elite MLS fullback, bc if he can't cut it in MLS, he definitely won't cut it in Europe right now. So I was wondering if we should encourage players to go later OR to just go to Europe at the age of 14/15 so they can develop in European academies.

  2. From an American player prospective, I think alot of these players jump was too big from MLS to the club in Europe. Most prospects weren’t dominating the MLS level so going to a big team in Europe, most likely they will fail. Picking the right club is the most important thing not just hoping to a top 5 league. From a Canadian prospective, other than Davies who is one in a million talent, the progression is more subtle for an example a Tajon Buchanon progression going from Belgium to Italy at a slightly older age I think would do some of the MLS prospects good.

  3. I think Emmanuel Sabbi should get another shot for the USMNT he's been performing well for Le Havre in Ligue 1. Also I feel like the USMNT could very easily play a 4-4-2 either of the Diamond or Standard variety.

  4. It would be interesting to check out the statistics of Latin American players’ success in Europe… from what you’re saying, American MLS players seem to have a 25% success rate, which seems sort of normal and similar numbers as the Latin American leagues’ developed players.
