Manchester City is reportedly in talks with River Plate for a potential £15 million deal to sign 17-year-old Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri. City previously signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate for £14 million in 2022, and discussions for Echeverri are ongoing. If a deal is reached, it is expected that Echeverri will be sent out on loan, potentially returning to River Plate. Echeverri recently captained Argentina at the Under-17 World Cup, where he helped his country reach the semi-finals and scored five goals in total. Manchester City has a good relationship with River Plate due to their previous dealings over Alvarez, who has had a successful debut season in England, winning multiple titles. Despite their interest in Echeverri, City is not expected to be busy in the January transfer window, although Kalvin Phillips is likely to leave. Phillips has made only two Premier League starts for City since joining from Leeds 18 months ago and is seeking regular playing time elsewhere. Juventus and Newcastle are the frontrunners to sign Phillips.
