Ajax fan here. Hato is unreal. Most talented player I have seen in years and at Ajax we have seen a lot of talents. But Ajax will never let him go. Itās impossible. He will stay for another season. Summer 25/26 will be the first transfer period where you might have a chance.
The only plus about women refs is people are more responsive to a womanās voice. I love when Tom shows his teachers training in diversity, he really drank the cool aid. I am not saying itās a bad thing.š
Just interested, if you don't think Ivan Toney is a fit who do you think would be?If you said already forgive me I missed it.
The only difference in terms of playing is the speed and physicality. I must admit I enjoy the different perspective that presenters like Laura and Alex provide as it allows me to broaden my own thoughts on the game. Football is a game of opinions and the more the better.
Toney is premier proven can score 20 goals a season thats eddie and jesus combined would be a big upgrade for scoring. Jesus overall play is better than eddie so sell eddie and bring in toney.
Toney and any other talk of CFs in January is just a distraction for me. Sure, we need to upgrade at least one of the options there (and hopefully will in the summer)… but we do at least have options there that we trust enough to use regularly. Stealing massively from Vision's Thursday podcast here, but if there's any money available in January then I think we have to be looking at defensive cover and a winger: defence is one injury away from having to turn to Cedric(!); and none of our other wide options replicate what we get from Martinelli and Saka, who we're just running into the ground, game after game. Nelson isn't really trusted – not really sure why, but you can tell that by the minutes that he doesn't get – and whilst Trossard can stand out there, he'll do the job completely differently. That's fine if you just want a tactical alternative for 15 minutes because plan A isn't working, but it's no good if we need to give one of those guys a rest or (God forbid!) need to find long-term cover for them.
Women's game being banned for 50 years and "standard" is a bit of a dog whistle imo.
Same with equal pay (Both national teams here are paid the same), better coverage (I'll get to that) and a seemingly never ending fixation on crowd numbers or demographics. Or, when all of that ceases to be an interesting spectacle the self-defeating "Even if you don't like it, don't slag us off" mentality.
Equality is about equal, not better than.
Merit and opportunity are two different things. Let's not confuse the two.
I have the luxury to watch and support Arsenal men's at the highest level because largely I value and decided years ago as a child that imo the highest level of play and eventually relationship I could engage with in football was to enjoy this club.
Mainly because of Dennis Bergkamp and Ian Wright. But that's another story.
Some people have religion, some have knitting, some have according to American television serial murdering. I have this.
Since then, I've taken sport in some ways very seriously, but in other ways not seriously at all. I value analysis, high-end detail and work put into it's coverage, but not exclusively to this sport, almost all in fact, which at it's height I view as a mix of both at times bespoke art & science.
The UK women's game personally doesn't appeal to me in the slightest at the levels and access that I have presently, firstly selfishly I don't have the bandwidth, secondly I find the majority of the coverage amateur at best, and at worst tends to unfortunately misguidedly devolve largely into a poor aping of the worst parts of the men's superficial cheerleading and attempting to be "mates" coverage, which I find sycophantic and dull.
If I were however to decide to drop everything and invest significant time in the women's game, as I have in the past, the two teams I was most interested in in terms of high end aesthetic and tactical perspicuity were Barcelona and Lyon. Lyon have my favourite women's player Ellie Carpenter who I've watched casually since her days in the W-League here. Very fun right back who not only bombs on, takes long throws but does a lot more that I won't go into because I'll be here all day. And Barca are well, Barca. Other than the language barrier what relegated my interest levels to indifferent at best recent Spanish FA black eyes aside was; and it might be different over there, but the recent Women's World Cup here brought out a whole new group of cheerleading partisan fanatics, most of which whom have very little to no actual knowledge of the game and considered watching the Australian women's team tantamount to a Taylor Swift concert.
My philosophically generally is "Like what you like, try not to be a dickhead about it"
I also do not like Sam Kerr, which to these people basically put me on the level of a war criminal or "Haterrrrz". The reason I don't like Sam Kerr, is similar to how I feel about some of the antics Mbappe gets up to at PSG, Kerr has from day one over here pulled a lot of PR based stunts that are very much about her and what she considers "progressing the game", but in reality is more about her personally, financially and "her brand". Her brother Daniel, who was a very successful AFL player here had a lot of the same instincts. Great player, average human being. Put Ronaldo in that camp as well, but you can't explain this to new women's football fans. Oh well. Bandwagons happen.
Just seems recently discourse has entered into this self-centred and puritanical mode of expression. Shutting things down is the norm more than exception. But typically not with yourself Tom. So thanks for that.
My vague point was I appreciate the in-depth and nuanced coverage from you Tom, but not all those who aren't interested in women's Arsenal coverage are misogynist a-holes. š
Have a good day mate. Sorry about the waffle.
I'm sorry Tom, but your statement regards the issue of treating a lower profile manager differently to a high profile one is staggeringly naive. Since when hasn't there been degrees of discrimination in all manner of justice systems, such as the council estate kids getting custodial sentences for the exact same thing kids from affluent backgrounds typically receive fines and suspended sentences for, as an example?
The pronunciation (as a mexican gooner) for Santi GimĆ©nez is as follows: āHE-MEN-EHSā. none of that Spanish (from Spain) accent stuff.
Hello and welcome to the Gooner Talk Comments, back again with you guys for what is all the quips questions and concerns regarding the goings-on at Arsenal Football Club!
Osimhen is priced at Ā£112M. But that isnāt his cost. Weāve earned Ā£60M+ in Champs Lg so far. V.O. pushes Eddie outta the squad for Ā£25M+. As such, Osimhenās actual cost is Ā£30-ish. ā¦. Or, it doesnāt work that way and my thumbs are sore for nothing.
Women can do things just as good as men if not better in my opinion
The same way Peter Walton was so liberal in criticizing Arteta publicly is the same way he should apologize publicly for those inflammatory comments! According to Peter Walton's statement, he as a prominent figure/official should be treated more harshly for his inflammatory comments about Arteta. He should have to pay Arteta for Libel.
Thanks a lot for the podcast, Tom! This has become my daily morning routine, although I can only catch it live during the weekends, because in the week I have to take my kids to the school and daycare exactly at the start of the show. But just wanted to let you know that youĀ“re being heard by a fellow Gooner from Madrid everyday. IĀ“m Venezuelan and Spanish. My Spanish grandparent got me into Arsenal since I was a kid. He watched all kind of football, and he saw Wenger quality since Arsene arrived at Arsenal. I had the pleasure to watch the Invincible's league tittle with him, and also we watched the UCL final against Barca. Although that day was a little tense, because I was rooting for Arsenal and he was rooting for Barca. But it was a good game. He passed away many years ago. It would have been nice that he had the opportunity to see ArtetaĀ“s work in the club. But thatĀ“s how life works.Ā
Also, I wanted to let you know that I saw the team live from the pitch for the first time in my life this year. I traveled to Sevilla and it was an unforgettable night. I moved from Venezuela to Spain five years ago, and although I had the chance to see the team in the Europa League a couple of times, I was determined to wait for our Champions League return. It was my first Champions League game live from the stadium too. I“m not sure if I can attend if we play against another Spanish team in the knock-out stages, mainly because football is REALLY expensive (plus traveling and all that stuff). But if we end up playing against Atlético de Madrid or Real Madrid, I will surely assist to the game here in the city. I live about 15 minutes ride from Wanda Metropolitano. Great stadium, great team and great atmosphere in their games (I have attended a couple of Atlético“s games here). My wife is an Atlético de Madrid fan, and we“re trying to get our kids into Atlético too. She says to me that they will support Arsenal because of the passion that I show when watching my team. She likes football, but she“s not a crazy football fan like me. But I said to her that they need to have a Spanish team in their hearts, and certainly Atlético is better than my favourite Spanish team (Tenerife). XD
Sorry for writing such an extend comment. And sorry for my English too. Keep up the good work, mate!
COYG!
The only thing I can say about watching the women's game vs the men's game is that the men's game is played with a lot more physical contact. Just look at how Saka is battered in matches, or the sliding tackles, or the big defenders that barge small players out of the way, I've not seen much of that in any women's game, I think because the yellow card comes out in the women's game, it should come out in the men's game but unfortunately for Saka and many other players it doesn't. I do find the women's game often a lot more exciting than many of the men's games though, as there's a lot of individual skill, great through ball passes, lots of great goals, and none of the drama queens we see in men's teams, rolling on the floor when they've had the tiniest knock, or the diving.
Poor Charles Watts absolutely butchered Odiriles name when he read out a question the other day. Give him some tips Tom!!
I just had a chance to rewatch the Aston Villa game, our frontline are below par. Here is what I think, Nelli & Saka are great players but arenāt fully developed yet. Their decision making is still meh!. Why isnāt Saka taking on his men, he often passes back and still gets kicked anyway. Nelli on the other hand often plays by himself unaware of his surroundings. Letās get Toney to top strike, put Jesus on the right (Saka should learn from him from bench). Trossardāll also function better on d left wing playing with more intelligent pair of Jesus and Toney.
Sorry I gotta disagree on Emma Hayes. She's a bit too whiny and Mourinhoish when her side doesn't win. I mean saying Arsenal bullied cheatski when they just plain out played them.
TC, In regards to the FA stating that MA's stature buys him harsher punishments can legitimately be put to the test given Roy Hodgson's reaction after the Palace Liverpool questioning the validity and consistency and how they speak out or react to that.
To be clear I don't think either of them should suffer for it. If perceived mistakes or consistencies aren't pointed out they don't get reviewed (for all the good that has done thus far, given the vague rambling excuses given for the mistakes made)
Morning Tom! š
Good to see interest in Cedric. May he do well.
āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø (Review)
Iām pretty sure all coaches secretly agree with Artetaās disdain for the referee standard. Iām sure they have all suffered similar mistakes that have cost their teams positions in the tables.
Hato is left footed Timber.
The sporting aspect will never be equal because men are physically bigger stronger and faster plain and simple. Punditry and officiating can definitely be equal.
Giminez will cost around 80 90 minimum and he doesn't have PL experience either. Watch Oshimen in Napoli vs Liverpool last season and you will know everything you need to know about what he can do against Van dijks of this world
For me we should go get Hancko from fayernood leftcenterback …fofana from Monaco defensive midfielder…Wilson odorbert from Burney right winger …Jonas wind from Wolfsburg centerforward
